I cannot do Beth McCoy justice in 350 characters, but I'll try. She is by far the best professor I've had in my entire experience at Geneseo. She's very fond of collaborative work, but don't let that scare you, she gives you every possible chance to succeed. Some have called her a harsh grader, but I strongly disagree. Also, her feedback is amazing

she's easy to reach but during a pandemic where it would be expected that professors don't assign so much and criticize so much she does the opposite. instructions are unclear and there prompts contain hundreds of guidelines for a discussion post. if you want to torture yourself with this workload, go ahead

Professor McCoy is an amazing professor. She makes sure she and all of her students know all of the students names. I was nervous bc I typically do not like classes with participation, but I spoke frequently in her class. She is very understanding. My final was a self graded essay which I really enjoyed. The material was interesting & not boring

Professor McCoy was, by far, one of my favorite professors at SUNY Geneseo. Not only did she teach topics that should be taught in earlier years of schooling (but is often ignored), she helped me grow more confident in my writing and myself. I took more than one class with her, but this was the last one I was enrolled in, and I am forever grateful.

Professor McCoy changed my way of thinking and helped me improve greatly as a writer. Read the material! Working with the readings is the only way to do well. Participation is encouraged and really helps with the Blog Post assignment. Do NOT wait until the end of semester to do all of the blogs. Gives a lot of valuable feedback. Unpack everything!

Dr. Beth is an amazing, caring professor. I really enjoyed her class. She provides excellent feedback on each blog post you upload which allows you to make improvements each time. Her activities and class is well organized and structured. I definitely recommended taking at least one class with her as an English major.

While Dr. McCoy expects a lot from her students, the work she assigns is very manageable. She has floating deadlines for most work, so don't procrastinate - pacing is graded. She offers many opportunities for extra credit by writing papers. She gives great feedback on work, and she'll make you both a better writer and a more conscientious person.

The class was difficult but manageable. When the semester ended she did not grade one of my papers and wanted me to meet with her during break even though I specifically told her I can not come back next semester. (I am not from Geneseo and it is an 8hr ride). It is already a new semester and I have an incomplete on the assignment. DO NOT TAKE THIS

Although she is a tough grader she really pushes you to "unpack" and transform not only your writing but your thinkING. On our first essay draft I did not know what I saying and I wasn't sure how to deal with the big concepts we were analyzing. Through her excellent feedback and constructive criticism I became a better writer, thinker and person.

Beth is a caring person, gives constructive feedback, and is accessible outside of class. She truly cares about her work and her students. Reading the books she assigns is a must for class discussion however, she breaks up the reading clearly on the syllabus and tries not to overload students.

Professor McCoy is a very smart and caring woman who gets the bigger picture. She forces you to really dive into the literature and make unique connections, which helps you become a better thinker. Take her class if you want to become a more skilled writer, reader and human being.

Prof. McCoy's Intertextuality class was the most difficult thing I've ever done! Readings were challenging (I'm looking at you Cane!) Be sure to participate and "unpack", DON'T forget to blog (20% of your grade), and essays... oof! On that note, Prof. McCoy will always work zealously and creatively to help you out. Also, I want to marry her.

Dr. Beth is by far the most amazing professor I have had so far during my academic career at Geneseo. She is clear, direct, honest, and truly is there to help you become a better writer (and in my opinion, also a better person). Don't be fooled though, she is a tough grader, but all of her criticisms are constructive and actually helpful!

Dr. Beth helped me to TRANSFORM, not only my writing, but my way of thinking too. She pushes you, but does so because she believes in you. I FAILED the first paper, but I worked hard and managed an A-. Was it easy? NO. Was it worth it? ABSOLUTELY. I took her 3 years ago and am still able to email her if I need help. She is a true gem! TAKE HER :D

McCoy grades very hard and expects a lot out of her students. I would say the majority of her classes consisted of individual work on assigned essays. She offers several extra credit opportunities throughout the semester which I strongly recommend. No tests or quizzes ever. Watch out for forum post deadlines... MAKE THEM GOOD BC THEY ARE GRADED!

Professor McCoy is honestly one of the best teachers I've ever had. She is so caring and committed to her job. She actually cares about her students and understands that we have other classes and lives to take care of outside of class. She makes everyone feel intelligent and makes you feel like your opinions are important. Would recommend.

Comment:
I learned a lot. I had to work for it but I learned a lot about the English discipline and major at Geneseo. McCoy's lectures are elaborate and at times difficult to follow, but if you trust her enough to follow even if at first you don't completely understand, you'll learn a lot too. I highly recommend her for ENGL 203 and for other classes.
