Mr. Yarrow provides worthless things to prepare for his class. The reading required is eminence. His grading is horribly slow, and grades terribly hard. Worst class I have ever taken total waste of money!

do not TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU RESPECT YOURSELF! intro to film class, it is an INTRO class, the course load is unbearable and I don't think it is a good way to get students excited about film. 7 films a week. INSANE! Forget a job and other classes. Because you have to write discussions and papers . Also films all sucked maybe 1 or 2 were ok

I took this course online. There is a minimum of 15 hours a week homework. That often moves up to 20-25 hours a week because the links for the movies buffer more that any website I've ever seen. Most of of silent films are of such poor quality you have a tough time making anything out on screen. Slow grader. I'm considering dropping this class

I took Yarrow for English 190 (Intro to Film Study) and he knows what he's taking about and was very enthusiastic about the topics he teaches. However, get ready to watch 5 or 6 full length, black and white films each week with a couple assignments to go along with them. The work isn't difficult but there is definitely a lot of it.

For the online Shakespeare course, it was quite a bit of reading - 1 play and commentaries per week. There was a mandatory online discussion that you had to participate in, as well as papers. He wants you to succeed and definitely loves Shakespeare. My only criticism is that the grading seemed somewhat arbitrary - feedback wasn't always given.

Took the online course and dropped it within the first week. Assigned 3 quizzes in the first week which were open note, internet, and book. Alas, none of those helped. Way too demanding for a 101 class. I couldn't even find the proper information using the internet. Seems like one of those teachers where if you can't learn anything it's your fault.

Mr. Yarrow is an extremely difficult teacher. I took his English 101 online course and it was extremely hard.. In the beginning, we took 6 hard grammar quizzes. He gave us 5 essays total, and it took him a month to grade each one. Additionally, he's a very tough grader, and he will fail your essay if you have 5 grammar mistakes. Don't take him!

Almost everyone in my class dropped out because they couldnt deal with him anymore. He would try to blame us for him not unlocking the weekly modules. He takes FOREVER to grade papers and his grading doesn't make sense. He is a very hard grader. He cant explain things and over uses the word "um". He expects to much from a 101 course level class.

Yarrow means well. He really does. But for an ENG101 class, the work load is intensive. His grammar quizzes are so difficult in the beginning of the semester that everyone started off in the class with no higher than a C. He takes forever to grade papers. Our essay #2 was due last week, but he has still not graded our first one (its been 3 weeks).

(This is specifically from an online standpoint.) I have never been assigned so much work in any class. Trying to pass this class along with others is incredibly difficult. He's a relatively generous grader and is willing to helphe emails back quicklybut the workload is extremely excessive. Plus, he required us to buy 10 books for his class.

In all honesty, this teacher is terrible. Don't be surprised if you do not learn anything. Discussion boards seem be pointless because you could have a well thought out insightful response and he'll give a C just because. I wouldn't recommend. His lectures are pointless as well. Work is time consuming and tedious.

He expects too much from a 100 level course. Takes forever to grade anything, and then his grading doesn't make sense. He can't explain anything. He assigns too much homework during the week, forgets to open the weekly modules, and doesn't respond to emails quickly. Do not take his class.

I took this course online and enjoyed it very much. Yes, there is ALOT of work, but if you enjoy film, it isn't too bad. There are at least 4 films to watch every week with discussion questions and quizzes. Mr. Yarrow is not a tough grader at all. As long as you exhibit an understanding of the content, you will do fine. Would definitely recommend.

Okay I normally don't base a teacher on how much homework they give, but this is ridiculous. He have AT LEAST 6 HOURS of homework a week. He's a tough grader. And he doesn't play games. Personally I think he is very nice and willing to help, but I would not recommend him, if you are taking more than 2 other classes.

Watching a large amount of films is expected, however, he assigns way too much homework. When you are taking four other classes it is hard to keep up with everything. Expects way too much out of a 100 level course.

Not a bad teacher, but A LOT of work. Gotta watch a film in class & then 3-5 outside of it & write extensively on each of them EVERY week. The 1st quiz was a surprise so everyone did badly. We were going to write 3 papers in the semester but only wrote 2 since he is bad at planning. Says "um" A LOT and waits until the last minute to grade anything.

FAR too much work for a community college. he grades extremely harshly as well. this is a 100 level INTRO course and he acts as though he is teaching a high level grad course. never dreaded a class so much.

I'm about to be finished with this class and dreaded every minute of it. Every other word he says is "Um". The course work is extensive and the best part about it is HE DOESN'T GRADE IT! Honestly, there's a week of class left and less than half of the insane amount of work we did is graded. The grades he does give are so random as well. Have fun.

The workload was insane for a 100 level course. I spent at least 10 hours a week on this class and on many weeks upwards of 20. Very slow grader and horrible feedback when he did finally get around to grading. I didn't really learn anything except that Yarrow has a very high opinion of himself.
