Took just for fun as my first-ever AHI class. Lectures are interesting, prof is unexpectedly funny. Tests required memorization of about 30 images/dates/places, plus an essay. Essays were graded very easy ("no wrong answers"), major themes. Just make flashcards & memorize, I got over 95% on every test. Easy if you're good at memorizing things.

This class was terrible. Professor Roller is a very boring person. I've never fallen asleep in any class before I took hers. If you're looking for a class that is pure memorization than take this course. But it will bore you and there is a high probability that you will fall asleep. Stay away from this class.

Professor Roller is passionate towards Art History. The lectures were a bit dull but she would crack jokes sometimes. Going to lecture is not really required but it is better to listen during lecture and take notes down than doing it at your own time on the internet. The tests are partially based on memorization and how well you comprehend it.

You dont need the textbook if you attend lecture. The grade is based on just two midterms and a final, they all have the same format and arent cummulative but be prepared to learn a lot of dates! her lectures go off topic, and she always lectures over time.

This class is difficult to get an A in because the tests require a lot of memorizing of dates, names, and information about many artworks and grading was often hard. Although, I thought the subject was interesting so I didn't mind putting in the work.

If you're looking for an easy GE, this is not the professor to take. She is not difficult, but will make you work really hard. You have memorize minute details about every single piece she wants you to learn about. You have to be ready to barf out a bunch of info during the exams about every piece. If you have other tough classes, avoid.

This class is a very interesting class and professor Roller is very passionate about art but she can be hard to understand and it is definitel not an easy GE. It requires a lot of studying and memorization but if you put the effort in the tests are not that bad. TA's will either make or break how well you do in this class. Overall a good class but

At first I was excited to take this class, but after now I hated it and the teacher was horrible. If you like to sit through and entire class without being able to ask questions, then this is for you. This professor was unhelpful during office hours and always lectured passed the end time, so I was always late to my next class.

Took this course for arts requirement, and I happen to like ancient Greek history, but like the other comments said, a lot of memorization and you have to be very specific, you have to memorize the name of the piece, where it is from when it was made etc.. Do this times 60. If you must take this class, attend the office hours.

Professor Roller was great! Though her lectures could be a little dry at times, she really knew her stuff. To people taking the class in the future I would recommend going to TA office hours for help. Also don't procrastinate learning the art. Learning it as it is being taught will be the best way to succeed in the class.

It's actually not that hard as other said. But all you have to do is memorizing. The lecture is boring. I didn't go to lecture for almost whole quarter; however, I studied and memorized so hard before test and ended up with all A.

She is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the subject. While her lectures can be dry at times, they are not unbearable and if you take good notes, you don't really need to read the book. A lot of memorization is required, and studying is time consuming, but expectations are clear and it's an easy A if you put in the work.

She will grade you down even through you have included everything she asks for--she will simply say she wants 'more' without explaining what that is? Loves to hear herself talk, and is unrealistic in her expectations. DO NOT TAKE HER! SHE will screw your GPA--for real!

Extremely unclear and VERY picky grader. Terribly boring lecture. Hundreds of images, only a few on exam & she wants full detail description on image .Catches absolutely everything and is critical grader. Do NOT take her. Did horrible in her class and ARTH is my major. Have never received anything lower than an A, but I did in this class....

2 papers, 2 exams. Paper 1 is a visual analysis on a work no lectured on--just your own interpretation. WRONG! She corrects everything! Even your interpretation--Sobbish and tricky! Exams: memorize 50 items only to view 7 at best. She is NOT clear, and you have to be a mind reader. DON'T take her class for pleasure unless you are masochistic!

If you are not an art history major and you will only be taking this class for a GE, I suggest you change your mind now. Her lectures are incredibly boring and monotonous, not at all engaging or interactive. The exams are solely lecture-based memorization, and a lot of it. I recommend not taking this class unless absolutely necessary.

Prof. Roller is such an interested teacher. She makes the lectures so much fun by adding in her own experience and her passion in art. I wouldn't say it's an easy A, cause it's really not, but it is really interesting and great if you like art history.

She's very interesting if you like art history, and she really knows her ancient Mediterranean art. Tests are hard though, because she doesn't specify what things she's looking for, but she docks you if you don't have them. I don't recommend 1A for an easy A, but it's an interesting class if you're into art history.
