Straight to the point teacher. Notes were helpful as a shorten form of the textbook. He is kind of condescending though. He expects us to know it. And he keeps saying "its easy".

Not a good professor. Horrible examples which are too long and do not teach you anything. Makes many mistakes and denies them to students, and is very arrogant about it. Changed profs and found it sooo much better! Would not suggest him at all.

After taking Math 209 I have realized the Moodie's marking scheme was nearly criminal. Also his teaching philosophy for 101 (memorizing problem sets) is stupid. I'm sure he would be ok for a course with .a consolidated exam, just don't take a course with him when he's the only prof teaching the course for that semester.

Comment:
Moodie's exams were extremely hard but they were 100% based off his problem sets he gave us. Just that his problem sets were made up of an outrageous amount of questions with solutions that he could not even get himself without checking back. Material is not learned, and your grade is based off how well you memorize his sets. Attendance mandatory.

Moodie isn't a terrible prof hes just real damn moody from time to time and often comes off as a jerk. Also the class average was 1.5 which doesn't seem right

True, the midterm average was in the 40s but he did discard it if we did better on the final. I actually liked the fact that the exams were made up of problet set questions, I used flash cards to memorize the solutions (although I will admit they were tough problems). Straightforward prof, u will do well if you make an effort on the PS. Recm'd.

Made absolutely no sense, his notes were not very thorough. He gave us problem sets from which the exams were made of and the average on the midterm was still 42%

He is really bad, skips tons of steps, gives out really hard assignments from which the exams are made up of. He couldn't answer a few of the questions from the problem sets himself. I used to like math, but now i'm unsure.

Very good prof if you can learn by example. Tends to omit conditions surrounding theorems, and assumes a certain level of mathematical maturity of his students; I personally found his lectures quite entertaining to sit through, with the word "obviously" thrown in repeatedly for good measure. He is a clear, concise prof. Blunt, though.

I am now a graduate student here in the UK at Imperial College and if it were not for Dr,Moodie's teaching I would not have gotten out of the U OF A with any understanding of the deeper ideas in differential equations. When I read the comments written here at this site I really have to question the abilities of those writing them.
