Professor Colella seems like a nice guy, but readings were difficult and class wasn't very interesting. I'd only take another class with him if I had to, which I don't.

Dr. Colella is a really caring professor. He is very knowledgeable and genuinely cares about each and every one of his students. I think there was only bad thing that I could say about this class and it was that he never updated canvas so you never knew what your grade was in the class. Other than that it was an awesome class and I highly recommend

Only a handful of grades, and takes a long time to return grades. Lots of reading. Most of the class is a discussion, not lectures. Everyone is assigned days they have to lead discussions, so you do need to attend and read.

Nobody is more passionate or knowledgeable about what they lecture on. He quotes passages from the text, and other texts that sometimes aren't even part of the course, from memory at length. I left every one of his lectures feeling like I knew more than I did an hour ago. A ton of fun whether or not philosophy is your thing.

Incredibly engaging and energetic professor. Easy grader of papers, but demands participation and asks difficult follow-up questions to answers. He will make you a philosopher! Best prof I have had so far!

Dr. Colella is one of the best professors I have had in the Xavier core. He is knowledgeable about philosophy and makes it relatable to his students. He is very helpful during office hours. His lectures are engaging and relevant. Reading helps, but he goes over the important information in class. I loved learning American philosophy from him.

Dr. Collela is one of the most respected professors at Xavier for a reason. He is incredibly intelligent, and loves class discussions. Come prepared to class having done the reading, he gets perturbed when people aren't prepared (obviously), but we never had a reading quiz. Dr. Collela was great, our class wasn't impossible, and I enjoyed it.

You can tell that he loves to teach. Reading isn't too difficult and he explains the material well. Participation is encouraged and the conversations in class are interesting. Papers and oral 'tutorials' are the only grades, though he does not grade harshly. Would recommend.

What an excellent teacher. I took this class as an intercession, so it was 4 hours a day. How he made it interesting for that long every day is beyond me, but I was so thankful that he did. Amazing class, amazing professor, and made the subject matter amazing as well.

Greatest teacher I've ever had. I hated Philosophy coming into this class, but he made it clear and relevant. Barely any grades, which can be good or bad. Hard to get an A because we only had two papers and an exam. *TAKE!* You'll learn so much, especially how to think!! (he is anti-catholic though...boo that.)
