Comment:
Maggiari is an OK professor at CofC, but annoying in Italy. Had some great experiences there, but many bad ones in his program. He could be condescending sometimes and never told us what we were doing until a day before we did it. Absolutely would not recommend study abroad with him.

Dr. Maggiari is amazing! He's a great professor and he really cares about his students. His class includes 4 tests, 4 in-class compositions, 2 oral exams, and a final. Nothing is incredibly difficult and he's never out to trip you up. Also, he likes to bring the class food, so enough said.

Dr. Maggiari is cheerful, interesting, and also brings his class food sometimes. His tests are not difficult and he always includes fascinating factoids on Italian life and culture in his lectures. There is a lot of homework though and late submissions are rarely allowed. There are four in-class Italian compositions to do as well, so study smart!

So Maggiari is true Italian and loves to talk about the culture and food. Lectures are super dull and will keep asking you until you get it right. Hes pretty intimidating and can get angry. Tests are fine and easy grader. Hardly takes attendance.

Professor Maggiari is very in love with his heritage and Italian culture. He usually spends most of class showing you beautiful places in Italy and what good Italian food looks like. However, he does not really go over the material you need to know thoroughly so you'll need to teach yourself a lot of it but the workbook helps if you actually try.

He talks more about where he has lived in Italy than anything else some days. He goes straight from the book and expects you to know words as he shoots them off to you. Be prepared to teach yourself a lot of the time. Nice guy, not good at teaching. Have the syllabus constantly within reach as well.

Maggiari is a straightforward teacher who is really passionate about the italian culture. Attendance is taken most classes so its good to be there. He teaches from the book and gives out a study guide before every test and quiz with exactly what is on it. Not good at explaining things and doesn't have patience for a lot of questions.

I love Dr. Maggiari! I'm taking 101 with him and I know it's just the beginner course but it's really not too hard. He interacts with all of his students so we can learn to better communicate in the language and makes us interact with each other. He's very passionate about the language and culture. He gives review guides so there are no surprises!

He is a good professor but if you plan on taking Italian up to 202 I suggest starting with him in 101. He speaks mostly in Italian so you really need to be in class plus, attendance is required anyways. I find him intimidating. He has favorites but if you show interest you will be fine.

I didn't detect any enthusiasm in his teaching. Allows you to leave early just because he doesn't like to teach you. And the guys who keep saying hes funny must have a very unhappy life:)

He's a fun professor. The class was kinda hard and you really have to pay attention and study a lot to keep up. I don't really like how he teaches but he makes class fun and he's very passionate about the subject. Not much homework. Oral exams are really easy. I'd recommend taking him. I took him for 101 and 102 because he's so fun.

Great professor who not only wants you to learn the Italian language but also about it's culture. May not have the simplest exams, but he will make sure that you understand the material. He loves what he does and is always available to help.

He really loves what he teaches, which helps with some clarification. Sometimes he tends to not answer your questions directly, probably because he didn't really understand the question in the first place? His quizes range from simple to pretty difficult. But, if you do all the work you're supposed to and put a little effort in, you'll be fine.

Subjective grader when you have an Oral, there is no rubric. He isn'tt an easy grader like the lower levels. If you have something right & miss a small thing in a section on a quiz/test its automatically wrong. He is very unreasonable at times and is discouraging. I would not take him. The class would have been easier if he were more helpful.

He is very quirky and very passionate about what he teaches. I like him a lot but his class isn't an easy A but at the same time not very hard. Usually everything that is on his tests, he talks about during class so attendance is basically mandatory.

I loved Maggiari! He was a great teacher, and was super helpful. He's really funny and loves italian. He wants everyone to be excited to learn in class and does a great job of making sure everyone participates. He made class really fun. This was my favorite class I've taken at the college so far, mainly because of him.

These reviews are ridiculous! I hate foreign language classes and have taken Italian from every teacher in the Italian department. Massimo is one of the best! He is extremely funny and eccentric. I think he's a big goofball. Maybe some people expect their teachers to be uptight all the time. Class is pretty easy and I had a great time. Take him.

He's fascinating, passionate about poetry, makes class interesting, and actually makes you want to go. he doesn't fit the boring mold of the american c of c professor, but far from psychotic.
