Awful lectures, dark room and so quiet I fell asleep almost every time. Unless you are an art major, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Tests and homework are absurd and difficult, but she offers a ton of extra credit. I'm an art major, and now I hate pre-Renaissance art, sad times. Cannot even believe how hard this class was just to fulfill my fine arts requirement. Prof Mainzer is nice but do not even think about talking for a second. I did not understand any of the words she used to describe the caves that all look the same. You must study about 50 different pieces of art to be asked about three of them on the test.

I took Arts & Values thinking it would be the most basic class for the core art requirement, but it was extremely difficult and I withdrew. Boring powerpoints, 1 long paper after Met Museum trip, only 3 tests but they require ridiculous memorization of art history (time period, culture, etc) Nice lady, but look elsewhere for an easy core art class!

The requirements for this 100 level class are ridiculous. Tremendous amount of work, intense memorization of hundreds of works of art and lots of reading. Prof says you need to devote 2 hours daily to pass this class. Sadly, you may come out hating art instead of appreciating it. I am suffering!

STOP, if you are an accounting, finance, comm, or anything but an art major listen to this!! This is not a class to take to screw with. THIS IS THE HARDEST CLASS I HAVE YET TO TAKE. hundreds of pieces of art must be memorized including every detail about them. I took this as a throw away class but IT IS NOT... DONT TAKE THIS CLASS

this class isnt the easiest class out there but it is definitely one of the most informative and you will learn a lot. Mainzer is the sweetest and will give extensions and makeups on anything. An A is definitely easily achievable if you put in the time and effort.

Very nice professor. Her class is informative and simple. Powerpoint every class and she puts all up on her website. The class work is structured how the students want it. She asks the class how many or often the quizzes are. The textbook never gets used though. She has one huge essay for the class which is based on a trip to the MET Museum.

She is a really nice and helpful lady. Class goes into detail about works of art. Had to take for fine arts requirement, but not too bad overall. She will give you an extension for an assignment if you really need it.

if you do not absolutely love art history do not take her class. she expects you to memorize hundreds of works, their time periods, cultures, etc. and be able to regurgitate it at will. Even if u whisper something to the person next to u, she will interrupt the class to call u out. very hard grader as well. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS. u will regret it

The amount I needed to study for this class was surprising. The course was boring and even though she is a sweet lady her class is worth avoiding. If you do take it study just as much (if not more) for her tests than your other classes.

This class is ridiculous, especially if art isn't your major. It's a waste of time and sooo boring. You look at slides the entire time, and the tests are pretty hard with a lot to study for them. Take a different fine arts course for your core if you can cause this class is terrible and she isnt as nice as some people think

BORING class... look at slides every class... 2 hard tests, 1 hard final, 1 easy paper for going to the MET... very nice and helpful, but this is a hard class; I got a C+ and I have straight A's in everything else

Very enthuisiastic about material. Two tests, one final(same format as other tests), required trip to MET and paper about it. Never participated at all, studied extremely hard the night before tests, did fine. I am not an art major, class is kinda boring, nice teacher though, will help you out. Just have to memorize a lot for the tests.

Can't tell you much about the class because the only ones I was awake for were the days we had a test. She posted notes from every class on EMerit...but she makes you go to every class. I got an A in this class for sleeping through it and just going to EMerit later on...it was a waste of time though

Very nice woman but very boring class. The tests are difficult but not if you really study the notes that are online. She is very willing to help. There is one paper that is an east A and three tests which you do have to study for. There is no hw. Good teacher who knows her stuff, but it is boring.

Easy class but can be boring. Little to no homework, just make sure to pay attention in class. Notes for all the test are online. 3 Tests during the semester with a final paper on the MET. Didn't ever go and still recieved an A. Very sweet woman, make sure to take in the afternoon!
