This was actually HIST445 (not listed). This class will have you reading A LOT every single week. She calls on selected persons every week and expects detailed answers, participation and attendance. Your grade will be based off three 5 page papers, attendance, participation and a final. Get ready to read and write.

She doesn't really teach how to write for history; we had to tell her that we were having problems to learn how to write for the class and she still didn't care. She has good intentions, she's just not a good professor, she's a mediocre professor; however, she's a great person.

Just make sure if you take this class that you have a light schedule. It will literally take up all your time. Prof is very peaky and an extremely tough grader. She makes you read her book on the environment and expects you to write 3 5 page essays on it. Only take this class if you really want to learn how to write. Otherwise don't.

Elkind is honestly a great professor. She may seem tough but as long as you read and show up on time you'll do fine. She gives you great feed back on papers. The final was an essay and she let you take in a sheet of notes. She cares about her students and is passionate about her teaching.

More work than you imagine. 10 short papers, (Not going to get an A if you don't go to Office Hours) 1 major group project with lots of time devoted to readings. Very tough grader but extremely helpful in making you a better writer. Not going to be an easy A" whatsoever.

I took this class as one of the options for the honors program and regretted it so much. She grades really hard and it's basically impossible to get an A on any assignment. If you spend 6 hours or 10 minutes on a paper, you'll always get lower than an A. The classes were long and boring also. The class required so much time and energy for nothing.

My writing really improved thanks to Elkind. Her class is difficult, and the workload is heavy, but she's really helpful and understanding. This class was an 8am and the fact that I actually went to it says something about how much I enjoyed her discussions in class. Just be ready to write non-stop.

This class was EXTREMELY difficult and no matter how much you study if you're not good at in class essays and memorizing the entire history 1865 +, you're probably not going to do good. You have weekly online quizzes which are super easy, but your grade is all dependent on 2 in class essays for the midterm and 3 for the final. -10/10 recommend :(

The material of the class wasn't hard itself but the way Dr. Elkind set it up made it difficult to correlate the textbook with her lectures- I felt like I wasted my time reading the textbook. And she only lets you take notes with paper & pen. I liked Dr. Elkind though, she was thoughtful & passionate in her field, but maybe her class wasn't for me.

I love history, it's my favorite subject. However, I didn't think I could ever dread going to a history class before I took this one. Professor Elkind is very nice, but her lectures are so boring. She gives weekly quizzes which are really hard even if you do read diligently. Participation is part of the grade, & her midterm is based on discussions.

I really like US History and know a fair amount, yet I ended up with a B+ in the class even though I got an A and B on the midterm and only missed one on the quizzes. Her lectures don't cover what's in the text book, which is a shame because that's what we are supposed to be learning about. Instead her lectures are irrelevant and so boring!

HARD CLASS. I thought it would be interesting because I enjoy history but it was hard to see a connection between the book materials and what we learned in class. Go to class, it will help for the final. More than anything GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS.

Professor Elkind was not bad. I'm very uninterested in history but she's so knowledgable about everything! The class is boring but she gives lecture outlines that help you take notes. There's weekly online quizzes which are easy if you use your book, a midterm (short essays on discussion questions) and a final (same as midterm, 40% of grade).

Very confusing and unclear in what she wants from the class. For a 100 level course this is too demanding of a professor. you write 3 essays and 1 peer review. the exams are essays and weekly quizzes on top of that. Her lectures and her midterm/final go together, but have nothing to do with the book. Overall, pick a different teacher.

Elkind is very knowledgeable, with that being said her class seems to be very unorganized; for example, you take weekly quizzes every week until the end but her lectures will not cover the material until 2-3 classes later, this means almost half your grade is based simply on how well you retain knowledge of which you read in short time, not lecture

Each week she has a 10 question quiz online about a chapter in the text and some primary sources, which you can use the book for, so its really not that difficult. Do the homework and go to her lectures because the midterm and final questions are answered right then and there. This class does require work, but it is not very difficult.

This class is very demanding. Each week there is a quiz of 10 questions online (which actually influence your grade a lot), and then there are huge homework assignments. She is very nice, and if you go to her office hours she is more than willing to help, but if you want an easy A, not the class to take!

Have to read chapters weekly, but quizzes are online. Not a horrible class, but do expect to work. Midterm and final were essays/short answers. Had to study a lot, but as long as you keep up in the course it isn't so bad. She is an ok professor, you can see her passion for history.
