Heard great things but was not good in online schooling. I found the lectures/slideshows long and boring, and marks are based entirely off of papers. She is an extremely tough markers and the feedback I received was not very helpful and did little to improve later grades. If papers are not your strong suit you do not want to take this class!

Love this prof! She gives great feedback and her lectures are super engaging, especially for the ones that are not particularly interested philosophy. Lots of details in the lectures, so I would definitely consider watching/listening to them again. Overall, she's awesome and a fair marker.

Didn't adjust well to online learning during the Covid-19 era. Prepared some slides before the year started then checked out. Made potentially easy to explain concepts hard to understand by incoherent slideshows and overuse of filler information. We only had essays in this class and if you didn't nail her exact opinion you'd instantly lose 30%.

I don't really understand why she's not ranked higher. Quite possibly one of the best professors I've had thus far. She really, REALLY knows her stuff, and is a very effective communicator of otherwise somewhat dense material. Lots of readings, but that's expected in a class like this. Hard but fair tests, and she's very approachable to talk to.

Really enjoyed her class. Reasonable grader for papers. If you show up, take good notes and do as many of the readings as possible, you will do fine. Exams are short but to the point so as long as you put in a reasonable amount of effort, you will do fine. She recognizes that a lot of the people taking the class are only there because of honors

Manages to make philosophy fairly interesting. Uses a lot of real world examples to help explain key concepts. Reading heavy, but that's to be expected in a Phil course. I got away with not doing a lot of the reading anyways. The tests are fair but HARD. Do not skip class and write down pretty much everything she says and you'll be fine.

One of the best Profs at Dal. Her classes are very rewarding if you put in the effort! Really knows her info, and does a great job at relating philosophers to more contemporary issues. Would highly recommend taking this course-You will learn so much!!

Very interesting subject (personally) and she lectures well. Not a lot of room to ask questions in lectures, though she will clarify hard to understand concepts. Don't skip, you can do extremely well studying only lecture notes if you skim through the secondary texts. Tests are short and look for specific answers, so know all key concepts well.

An intelligent, passionate professor who expects a great deal from her students. Little patience for slackers. If you demonstrate that you're willing to put in the (significant) requisite legwork she'll reciprocate by clearly addressing any problems you may have.

She's a very intelligent woman and you can see the passion she has for the subject of political thought through her lectures. Tests are very short and to the point; if you know the material it's easy to get a great mark. Do not miss a class however since the slides have close to no info on them, but nonetheless she made a boring subject tolerable

I thought that Dr. Fierlbeck's lectures were interesting and informative. Tests and the exam are more focused on demonstrating understanding than analysis, they are tough but fair. Don't miss class- the slides aren't very useful. Also, USE THE SECONDARY TEXTS, she is not joking about their importance!

She taught our first unit, but it felt at times like she was teaching conspiracies 1000. She leaves many questions she puts forth unanswered, and her lectures are very ahrd to take notes in. Not fun.

She gives a very broad survey of modern political philosophy- which is the point, I know but sometimes I wish she went deeper. Nonetheless you really do get a feeling for political thought as a discipline. Essay topics involved practical application. This is good. Hard tests and exams.

Obviously a very intelligent woman who knows what she's talking about - the class is interesting but pointless. It is basically one big conversation with bad pop culture ref's. The slides are useless, don't miss a class and copy down quotes - the tests are based on them.

Great prof; very kind. Wonderful lectures, and clearly incredibly knowledgeable about the material. Exams are NOT analytical. VERY DIFFICULT if you have grown accustomed to the traditional style of the 'Liberal Arts'. Hard to pull a B... Recommend if you have an intense interest in the subject and can cope with the high level of difficulty.

Comment:
Utterly useless professor. Easily the worst I have ever had. She is a great speaker, and pretends to be interesting. After getting through the fluff though, she is neither. Her exams are short, incomprehensive and not reflective of the material. She is not inclusive to philosophy students, or analytical essays in general. Very disappointing.
