A very good professor engages in the class and will not call you out if you don't participate at all. Watches films, and takes easy 6 question quizzes. Just read the books or skim pages and you will get a 10/10 on quizzes. There are 3 reading books you have to buy but they are really easy to read! Would recommend.

He's a really nice guy who tries to make class enjoyable for his students. Although there was a good amount of reading with quizzes (3 books and a few articles) it wasn't too hard considering most of the readings were on sparknotes. He makes you do 3 presentations, but they aren't graded roughly, and he also lets you re-write essays

Professor Grinnell has such a passion for Shakespeare and it really shows in his lectures. The class is not necessarily hard as long as you READ THE PLAYS. He gives a quiz after the assigned reading, 5 questions not too hard. Fun group project at the end (Staged reading) Overall AMAZING professor and very nice and understanding.

Great teacher! There was A LOT of reading and writing but the books we read were very interesting and enjoyable. Make sure you read!! He's a tough grader, but he definitely gives good feedback and takes time on each person's writing. We watched an apocalypse based movie or show every week which was awesome! Participate as much as you can!

Enthusiastic about his subject but still makes the readings comprehensible for non-english majors. If for some reason you did not understand a reading he is always more than happy to assist without passing judgement. Class was mainly discussion based. It is easy to see that he cares and wants students to succeed.

Truthfully, one of the best professors at Marist. Whether or not you're an English major, take a class with him. He's a kind guy who really cares about you. Only 3 short papers for the class and a mini presentation. Just make sure you're able to participate in class so there aren't any awkward silences. He's the bae.

Super nice guy, but expect a ton of reading and pop quizzes about it. The FYS was about the apocalypse so you watch alot of flims and tv shows which is nice. There was 3 papers assigned and an easy ending presentation assignment. No midterm or final which is nice

I love this Prof. if I was an English major I would look to take all of his courses. He really is there for you if you need it. He does assign 3 four-page papers over the course of the semester but they aren't too bad and he gives plenty of time for revisions. Also you do read a lot and get quizzed but most of the time they are fair.

Grinnell is one of the nicest men I have ever encountered. Wants every student to do well and is extremely helpful. Seems very interested in things that student say about the readings. You only need to buy the 3 books that you will read in the beginning of the semester. Take this man as much as possible!

Take as many classes with Grinnell as possible! Especially if you have any interest in English. Very fair grader, extremely kind, very approachable. As long as you keep up with the reading the work isn't bad. You can tell he really loves teaching and loves talking about what he teaches. Very easy on the eyes. Just a all-around great guy.

A Very Intelligent Teacher, goes out of his way to explain things in easy to understand terms, and has a wide berth of knowledge on Shakespeare and the issues of his time. Would recommend highly if taking the Shakespeare Abroad Class.
