One of the coolest professors ever. He genuinely cares about his students and want them to succeed. His tests are hard tho and he is well aware of that. No curves, but plenty of extra credit opportunities. Be ready to work for this class.

Dr. Spontak's class is well-organized and the grading criteria/assignment requirements are well-communicated. The best professor I have had in NCSU's chemical engineering department thus far. Tip: going to problem session helps on the homework & doing the practice exams helps on the actual exams.

Spontak's an interesting person. He comes off as full of himself, but I don't think that's the case. I think he's just different. He seems to really care about the potential/ success of his students.

I don't know what all of these good ratings are about. This class is so hard, and all he gives you is formulas on a powerpoint. We have done 0 numerical solutions over the entire course.

Incredibly clear and really wants to help his students. I think I've learned more in this class than in any other engineering course I've taken before, and most importantly, I feel more grounded in scientific principles.

One of the nicest professors I've had while at State. He really cares about his students. A lot of outside studying is required because he doesn't spoon-feed but he is always willing to help in office hours. His tests are also tough but he offers a lot of extra credit. If you're willing to put in effort take his class.

I'd always heard mixed reviews, but he is genuinely one of the nicest professors I've ever had. You can tell he really enjoys teaching and wants everyone to do well. Yes, his tests are hard. But there is a lot of opportunity for extra credit, and if you do all the homework and make sure you understand it you'll be fine. I enjoy going to his class.

If the material is covered in the homework or practice tests, it will not be on the tests. That topic he gave only a brief mention to a few weeks ago? That'll probably be half your test. Hope you brushed up on the specifics from your book that weren't covered in class.

Wonderfully organized teacher, everything you need to know is presented in very precise powerpoint notes. Really wants students to do well, provides obscene amount of extra credit opportunities and outside help (runs optional very helpful 1.5 hour problem sessions every week) Wants students to actually know hard material, so class is difficult.

Spontak's interests are purely in research, not in teaching. He offered up a few in-appropriate comments on how 'this would pass here, but not at Berkley'...Nice guy, but he should be in an IBM lab somewhere

Very friendly & knowlegable, but quite authoritarian in the way he teaches. Likes himself a WHOLE lot, and lets you know it. Extremely helpful (GO TO OFFICE HOURS!), very professional and polite. Sure, self-satisfied smugness (bordering on arrogance) may be his tragic flaw, but hey... none of us are perfect. Watch out for pop quizzes!
