Comment:
The lectures are useless teaching tools; lectures are given and then a quiz is given on the material from that lecture! Must teach yourself all the material unless you have an excellent short term memory. Refused twice to give back points on quizzes for several of us even after admitting we were right.

he is extremely straight forward and attendance is far from mandatory. all memorization but completely doable. spicka tells it like it is and keeps it real. definitely take this as a gen ed if you have to.

Some test questions come directly from the textbook, but otherwise, you never have to do the readings. MEMORIZE THE STUDY GUIDE IN ORDER TO DO WELL ON TESTS. He puts all power points online so going to class isn't necessary though I did. Tests are hard but there's a pretty big curve. He also tells gross stories and shows gross pictures.

Prof. Spicka was interesting... the course covers A LOT of information and you must study outside of class. Review SI sessions are VERY helpful. His lectures are not mandatory and can get boring. He has a habit of talking about his body/surgeries/family too much and shows pictures too but he means well. If you are a good student, you will succeed.

He is a good guy, funny and nice but this class is a nightmare. He reads through 100+ slides of notes that you already have each class. He does nothing more than read the notes. Way too much information on each test, especially for non-bio majors. Maybe not all his fault, he said he has brain damage from a previous tumor but, avoid if you can.

Comment:
Buy a used textbook. At least 10 questions on the exam are from the practice questions in the textbook. Memorize the power points. You don't really need to buy the review binder (it's only class notes). You don't really need to go to class except the class right before the exam. Go to the review sessions even if they're boring.

Human Anatomy is a straight-forward class. Dr. Spicka makes it an entertaining course and provides a very useful study guide for the class. You are quizzed every class (with few exceptions) and there is graded groupwork every class. If you are diligent in your studies and you go to all of the classes, you should do fairly well.

Attendance is definitely not required because he posts all of his power points on MyCourses as soon as class is over. Tests focus on trivial details from the study guide, but if you cram right before the test, you'll get a good grade. He curves by a lot and takes like 20 questions straight from the book for every test, which helps a lot.

This class is completely memorization. Attendance is not required by any means. Just purchase the study guide, fill it out using the PowerPoints online, and memorize. If you put the time in, you will get a good grade especially because he curves. Stories and pictures are gross but you might just remember that example when its time to take the exam.

Tests are very difficult, but the first 20-30 questions are straight from a bunch he tells you to know from the textbook. He does curve the grades. Stories are simultaneously funny and disgusting. Pictures are downright disturbing in most cases. Overall, not a bad class. There are worse gen ed sciences to take.

Terrible. You don't need to goto class, not only because you can and probably should just teach yourself, but because his stories and pictures are disgusting. The tests are WAY too hard for a non bio major class, and there is way too much information on each test (One test had 7 entire chapters on it.) Teachers are supposed to teach.

You don't really need to go to class, but his examples help. A third of every exam is questions taken straight from the book, and the other 2/3rds is straight memorization from the study guide he makes (and makes you buy - but BUY it. it has everything you need to know). He's a funny guy, but the class is pretty boring (to me at least).

Anatomy itself is interesting, but I didn't like this class because it's all memorization, which I hate. If you are a good memorizer, you'll be fine. Quizzes every day, along with group activities requiring you to be a doctor most of the time.

Took human anatomy lecture and lab with him. I thought he was great. Anatomy lecture requires alot of studying from the study guide he gives you because of a quiz every lecture, but all you have to do is memorize. Memorize and you get a good grade - pretty simple. I give him a lot of props for making a study guide.

Greatest science class ever!! Spika is the man!!!!!! The tests can be annoying (100+ Questions) but just study hard and you'll do great. I got an A in this class by studying hard. You don't really need to go to the class to learn, you can teach yourself from the notes, but he's an entertaining teacher (lots of funny stories. )

The only reason to go to class is to listen to his hilarious stories and mind-boggling comments. The tests include a lot of information, but all of it can be memorized from the study guide and powerpoints, which he puts on myCourses. The only thing that really irritated me was his pro-life preaching toward the end. Still, I'd recommend him.

Spicka knows his stuff and has experienced biology in all different degrees. He's the perfect person to be teaching human biology. As for the class, just study the notes hardcore before the exams and you'll get an A.

First of all, if you're considering being a Bio major, either don't or find a different college. Second, don't take anything with this man. He has no idea that maybe people don't learn things by memorization of random facts, and his examples confuse you more than they help.
