Ok.. in my experience, he's a very easy marker. I'll probably end up with a 90% in this 4th year mandatory English class. But he does not lecture, he kind of just wings it for the whole time. Plus an average of 7 weeks wait for assignments back. We never ONCE used the textbook readings he assigned, which were over 250 pages each (I didn't read any)

Very nice guy, not much of a teacher but he is passionate about his work. Participating in class discussion is a must if you want to succeed. His biggest flaw is that he takes forever to mark and return work so you're pretty much rolling the dice when it comes to the final.

Here is a Professor who returns absolutely none of the work you give him, doesn't respond to emails, cancels Graduate seminars regularly, and who ALWAYS phones in the material he is set to teach. Perhaps he was more at home at PC Magazine, but he certainly isn't a Professor.

As I write this, it's the last week of classes, with no grades yet. I was very interested in the subject-matter, but I don't feel like I've learned anything about it. The texts were interesting, but weren't relevant to the supposed subject of the course. I've gone to all of the classes and done my work, but I didn't learn much about the subject.

He is a great professors if you like listening to him talk. He is very funny, but whether or not you are at the lectures doesn't really make a difference. However, he is a VERY helpful professor, and one of my favorites. He is very lenient with students and though he is unorganized, it often works in the student's favor. Recommended.

He has that so called "down-to-earth" attitude; you know, he "gets" what it's like to be a student. Well that's all fine, and he's a nice guy, but his classes are very unorganized. Most lectures are just him riffin'. He takes forever to mark and is not as "easy-going" when it comes to grading either. If you like the lax atmosphere, go for it.

Randall is obviously a smart guy, and he does a lot of out-of-school work that gives him credibility. Unfortunately , it seems that his busy schedule detracts from his teaching style. Lectures have little to no relevance to readings and assignments; it's near impossible to reach him outside of class; and good luck trying to get your marks back.

Randall is a "love him or hate him" guy. He's clearly intelligent, funny, and thoughtful. Prone to narrative discursions, but if you were actually paying attention, you'd know that those discursions are sort of the point: the broad-ranging implications of rhetoric. Rarely follows syllabus, takes weeks to mark work, but I love him just the same.

He is amazing! I would take any classes he teaches. As for cancelling the last class, I'd like to thank him. I found the content very interesting. He is hilarious a great lecturer. For those of you that say he doesn't take the course seriously- you take yourselves way to seriously.

Gives nothing useful to his students, but demands a lot in return. The reading list is huge; we were asked to buy books he ended up not using. Takes an extremely unreasonable amount of time to mark, causing the deadlines to shift into the exam period. Doesn’t appear to care about his work and never says anything very relevant.

Skipped one book entirely and scrapped essay for another. Doesn't take deadlines seriously. By the end of term he was changing due dates daily! Says he'll have papers back by a certain day, but he won't. Cancelled last day of class. Said students wouldn't want to come. More likely he didn't want to come. Lazy. Doesn't care about course.

Neil Randall was the best (and funniest) lecturer I have ever had. His Tolkien class was pure entertainment; I made sure I never missed a second of it, and our main assignments were creative projects which were intended to spur our creative abilities. I would consider myself blessed to have the fortune of being in another of his classes.

Was hoping to get a lot more out of this class. He wasn't prepared for anything, lectures, deadlines, etc. The less he cared (or seemed to) about teaching this class, the less I cared about going, working on assignments or learning anything. He cancelled a few classes for "personal reasons", because he obviously cared more about other things. Why a

Was really intersted in taking this class, but got nothing out of it all term. The class would have been a lot more engaging if he had actually followed up on deadlines and stuff. The more he pushed deadlines back, the less he seemed to care, and as a result, the less myself and my group (where group projects were concerned) began to care.

Made grammar pretty interesting but left us no time to work on semiotics and metaphor theory. Very helpful if you ask for it and a really nice guy. Does not give assignments back! even if you ask multiple times.

Okay, this kid is hilarious! That said, it`s very hard to pick up actual rhetoric standards from the lectures. I believe I had 3 pages of notes. Just read the books and ASK him for help if you need it. He`s great for extensions, as long as you make a real effort. I loved Ella Minnow Pea!!
