He lacks cultural understanding and displays a racist behavior towards international students. He rudely commanded an international student to "Learn English."

Worst teacher I have ever had. He seems to know very little about his own topic, despite having taught it for at least 30-40 years, and gets flustered if asked anything that doesn't have an easy answer. He rarely says anything useful in class, and the tests are just scrambling through data sheets that you will never use again. He needs to retire.

One of the worst course I have ever taken at KU. Minden was very unorganized and does not care much about students. Still using slides from 5 years ago and does not bother to update them. You learn nothing in the lecture, labs are a bit helpful. It is impossible to study for the exams since nothing is clear. Avoid if you can!

One of these reviews said Minden was "checked out as an educator" and I think that pretty much sums it all up. His breath smells like alcohol, he rarely says anything important in lecture, and he's pretty much useless when you ask for help with lab or homework. He makes the class fairly easy though with open internet exams and few assignments.

Gary is a pretty nice old guy, but I have no clue why he's still a teacher. Everything I learned in 388 came from the student TA's in lab, because exams and homeworks are just ctrl-f. Lectures could have easily been compressed into 15 minutes each but he sighs and looks for people on their phones which makes it drag out for the full time usually.

idk the reason for showing up in class cz finally you have to learn all by yourself. Besides, f you are an international student, pay attention to this. he will make you UNCOMFORTABLE.

I really like Professor Minden.... but he's pretty checked out as an educator. Although, in a way, it forces you to be responsible for your own learning. The lab portion of 388 is interesting but the lectures are dull. However, he does something not many professors do - he will completely push the lecture material back if students have alot of Q's

I think Prof. Minden is a pretty good teacher. As usual and obviously, I disagree with most of people's opinions. He is just a good teacher and for a 388/programming class you don't need too much instructions.

He is an awful teacher who is not longer putting any effort into organizing and preparing course material. The lectures are pretty much useless and he frequently refuses to teach yet still demands you to come to class. The entirety of your learning will occur in the lab which is interesting but not enough to compensate forthe lack of organization.

This man shouldn't be allowed to teach. He's never prepared. He frequently gets lost in lecture, forgetting what he was supposed to talk about. The content of his lectures are of little value. I went from Mahmoud Hamid's amazing teaching style to this travesty of a course. It's like night and day. He needs to stick to research or just retire.

Joke of a teacher - shows up to most lectures entirely unprepared to teach. Most of the significant material, you will learn from your TA during your lab session. Mr. Minden does nothing to prepare you for these lab sessions.

Minden's 388 is a really great class. He isn't big on the traditional lecture-test format. The tests for this class are online and just word searching in the documentation. The lab is where you will really apply your knowledge of the higher level concepts from class. Ask questions and expect a good class discussion.

Dr. Minden's lectures for 140 are a little boring, but they did a great job preparing me for 443. He is strict about professionalism and will call people out for distracting themselves and others. If you talk to him outside of class you'll find that he is a very supportive professor that prefers less traditional teaching methods.

He's not a very good teacher. The slides are posted online so you don't need to go to class (I skipped for 4 weeks straight). The homework and tests are pretty easy unlike the labs, since they are online and you can look at the slides. The material is really useless and you'll learn basically nothing.

Can tell that the school forces him to teach this, kind of drones on in lecture. Once in a while tries to make a pop culture analogy, though definitely out-of-date. Knows what he's talking about, doesn't bother to elaborate (or drones on on a tangent)

Absolutely useless class and professor. Adv. Embedded Systems should have been a breeze. He didn't have a grading scheme; he made it up on the spot. Very unhelpful in class. He encouraged student presentations but then ripped them apart in front of the whole class. He always has the final word and can never see past his own antiquated viewpoints.

Extremely easy class. Midterm, final and homework everything is through BlackBoard. Its all MCQ and you can Google it all. You can easily get a 100% score in his class. Lectures are long and boring. Only about 30% of the people attend the class. Labs are a breeze.

Horrible teacher! I try to make out what he is saying during lectures but he makes zero sense what so ever. Tests are extremely hard. The book doesnt help much, either. Try to avoid getting this teacher at all cost.

Not very good at teaching. It's not super hard to get a good grade in the class but you have to teach yourself. The book was useless and confusing, I had to teach myself everything by watching youtube videos. The first test was really easy, the second one was much harder
