A USC STEM rite of passage is surviving the infamous Skibo. Her assignments are so difficult and convoluted that it is next to impossible to do them without help. She cares most about enforcing specific and tedious rules. TAs are genuinely scared of her. Get ready to spend more time on pre/postlabs than you have ever thought possible for a class.

Comment:
Aside from having a poor attitude and being inaccessible to students via email, Dr. Skibo assigns large amounts of tedious work every lab (each lab has a prelab, prelab quiz, the lab itself, and the postlab that takes several hours to complete). Her grading criteria is unclear and she is overall unapproachable. Shoutout to my TA Zhaohong though!

Not only is she a bad teacher with unclear and overly hard assignments/quizzes, she is also a wildly rude and unpleasant person! Have watched students get verbally berated in front of the entire lab for extremely arbitrary offenses. The TAs are usually nice but even they can't help when her exams are so unreasonable. Prepare to suffer.

She never will reply to emails and is so rude to students who are asking for help. Her end-of-the-semester tests are composed of content that is so completely irrelevant, which is why almost everyone did so badly on this test. You can just tell that she hates teaching which makes me, and hundreds of other students not want to put in any effort.

So so incredibly trash. I was valedictorian of my high school, got a 5 on AP Chem, & failed her lab exam. Her office hours are awful, she won't go through any problems or work through them. She doesn't even know how the graders grade, and blames it on you for not submitting regrades fast enough when she doesn't even give answer keys for us to check

Skibo's lab is the worst experience I've had at USC. Post labs take an average of 5 hours to complete, the pop quizzes before each lab are on material we didn't learn, and the actual labs are poorly supplied--many times we would have to stay late because there wasn't enough equipment to go around. The lab exam was harder than the final, good luck.

Would give 0/5 if possible. Super unhelpful and condescending when asked questions, and made life harder for everyone. Lab Exam was scrapped due to an overwhelming majority of students failing, and then brought back for some reason. Expects you to memorize every aspect of 12 labs. Takes points off quizzes for no reason like writing outside the box.

That day we stayed in the lab to do post-lab, and finally finished it. She asked us how we feel. We replied that we were really tired and could finally go home. TA smiled and said congratulations to us. Skibo rolls her eye...

With all due respect her lab section is a complete mess. It is really overwhelming. Plus, assignments are extremely hard (postlab, prelab, and pop quizzes before the lab sections). In addition, the labs in itself are really long, hard. Her management of the class is trash. The fact that there is a lab exam in this thing is a complete joke.

Pre-lab quizzes are challenging; you need to memorize formulas for a 6 point quiz even though lecture professors do not require it. Lab reports, which Skibo claims take a few hours, take 4-5 hours. While knowledgeable, she answers questions with attitude and is obviously not happy. She manages CHEM 105A/B labs, so follow the rules to the letter.

The content itself is bearable as long as you put in the work that is necessary of yourself. But too many students per section, limited equipment, and not enough time (unless you speed run and end up w/ inaccurate results), which also burdens the TAs. The coordination & management of the labs is not organized well.
