Comment:
His lectures are a bit hard to follow, he doesn't explain things horribly well and it's sometimes difficult to understand what he's saying. That being said, it's difficult to not get an A in his class, as he pretty much reviews the exact content on each exam the class period before. He wants you to get an A and understand the material.

Comment:
As his first language is not English, the best way to learn is not by listening to the lectures, but rather reading his slides. Although he knows the class's content, he sometimes lacks the language to properly explain it, leaving the class in confusion. His feedback on tests is usually 'good job' or 'try harder' but he will offer help if asked.

Dr. Stanchev structured the class in a way that is powerful for students who are self-directed (like most at this school), and was readily available for all students.

If you have never had programming, be prepared to struggle. He is entertaining though - he has a thick accent and when he gets excited in class he starts yelling. If you attempt the lab and can't figure out why it doesn't work, ask him and if he can't figure it out he will still give you full credit.

Really nice professor! Will be hard to understand, but if you do the homework you will be fine. He takes problems directly off the homework and puts them on the quiz, then problems from the quiz go onto the tests, and problems from the tests go onto the final. In other words, do the homework!

SO i went through the entire semester absolutely hating him and thinking i was going to fail the class completely. Then at the end he curved my D-ish grade up to an A-... So apparently he's super easy... Coulda fooled me though... But he's never failed anyone ever, according to him. So I would definitely recommend him!

Stanchev is freaking hilarious, but his accent is very hard to understand. Lecture is traumatizingly boring though. CS101 with Stanchev is a really really easy class if you know how to program, and a really really hard class if you don't. He can't really teach to new programmers.

Hard to understand accent. Doesn't explain stuff very well. Adds a nice curve at the end. Make sure you have abuddy that already knows the material.

Easy grader, does his best to help everyone, very nice guy. His accent can make it hard to understand him, and his notes seem disorganized. Good for classes that aren't "necessary", but could be a problem when you really have to know the material for later classes.

Good professor. Very nice guy. His grading was very forgiving - if it worked you got an A. If it didn't work, you'd get reasonable partial credit as long as you showed good effort. I took the class via distance learning and found him to be extremely hard to understand, so just print out the handouts before you listen to lecture.

I've had him for several CS classes (starting with 101) and I think he is great. A lot of people don't like him and I can kind of see why. I think he is better for upper level classes. Would not recommend for 101. Has the potential to be hilarious. As other people have mentioned, he gets excited.

He cant speak english. His quizzes and tests are impossible to take. Had no idea how he grades his tests. It seems like full or no credit for every written question. If it is not exactly what he has for his key, its wrong even if your code works. "There are many different ways to write code to do one thing" Don't believe him, he only knows one way.

Dr. Stanchev is one of the coolest professors at Kettering. He has very well-organized presentations, explains things clearly and even likes to joke around (in that strange way Russians do) - he's just goofy. His grading is so easy - doesn't hold late asignments against you and for the most part, you just need to tell him your lab works, and it's an easy 100. You gotta love a prof who'll go from screaming "if i EVER... see PROOF by EXAMPLE... you get NO CREDIT for ENTIRE ASSIGNMENT! CLEAR???"(from discrete) to "i want to give you all 100... you just have to help."

Do not take this guy! Cannot speak english! Grading is messed up, he makes sure that 4 people get 99 and then makes the rest of the class fall somewhere behind. Unless you have taken some type of programming before, you will not understand him. He promised me an 82, one week before the exam. Told me not to worry about the exam. I failed the class!

I took him for my second attempt at Java, he was much better than my previous professor. He has a sincere desire that by the end of the course you will be able to program. I believe he succeeded with me.

Take him if you are an EE, but anybody else should avoid him. His accent is great, I still remember him saying "You will have good wife if you know this" on the first day of class. His labs were cake, his exams were a little harder, but still easy, and his curve is amazing. He gets excited too, so class can be entertaining.

The crazy russian is a great prof. If you need to take cs101 as a EE corse req, take him. Beware of his accent, but its not that hard to understand. If he yells, its not at a student, he is just getting excited.

Computer Graphics... everything was on handouts which was good since he doesn't speak very good english. I handed him my final, he took two seconds to look it over, and said "95, very good". Wag booster :)
