Comment:
George's teaching style is VERY lecture heavy, and usually doesn't involve much participation from students unless they voluntarily contribute. He's a pretty generous marker and his final is very easy. I don't like English, and it usually isn't my best course, but it was this semester because it doesn't take a lot of work to do well with George

You can sense the love George has for English, which itself can be a dull subject, but he does his best to lighten it up. Easy enough to pass if you show up to the classes and put the work in.

material is kind of dull but papers are based on the books read in class so it's an easy write. Lectures can feel like forever but turn out to be useful when the time comes to write a paper.

A TON OF READING! New readings every day from old-english texts. However in order to pass you really only need to read the important texts (aka the ones tested on). George is a nice guy with an obvious love for English. Lectures are pretty dry (if you aren't an English buff) and grading is moderately difficult. Not a ton of projects/essays!

George is a good prof. He can be a bit dry but this class is really interesting if you are into history (all of the novels are true stories and most of them are about wars). There is a lot of reading but it is all graphic novels so it can be interesting. He is a tough marker for the papers, mostly on grammar and structure but the final exam is easy

George is a great professor. He provides his students with the necessary tools required for his essays. You can tell he cares for his students and their grades from the feedback he presents and the amount of discussions he has in his class where he allows students to voice their opinions and ideas on the subjects he offers.

I loved having George last semester. He knows a ton of information about the novels you study, and is always happy to add personal stories to his lectures. His sense of humour may be dry for some, but I found him hilarious. George is very genuine and caring- he always wanted to chat after class to ensure I was enjoying the course!

George is genuinely a nice guy. He dislikes when people do not pay attention during panels(if your class has one). Usually information from the panel will be on tests, essays, etc. So it's important that you go to them, participate in them, etc.

George is a great guy, and his class is fairly easy. He goes through the stories in class so you have a full understanding. He does do class participation, so try and speak up in class. Always show up on time, he hates it when students are late. He was a fair marker, and I did better on his essays than i did on essays in high school!

I loved George Hanna's night courses. He knew the material inside out & often used film to enhance lessons. He was funny & insightful & stuck very closely to the class schedule. Expect two written essays about 12-15 pages in length. I found him to be a generous marker & if you attend every class you will have no problem meeting requirements.

Comment:
Rather befuddled at times, George is not entirely open to new ideas, and is not open to students criticising his - or anyone else's - preconceptions of literary work. Very fond of "Pride and Predjudice" and "Jane Eyre." Good man, understands the students. Difficult to get to know, but once you do, you'll love him.

I have now moved on to Uof A; I miss George very much. He was very helpful. The only thing George cares about is his students and their future successes. He knows Shakespeare, Jane Austen and Chaucer, almost as well as the authors do. He is well rounded (in more than one way). George ROCKS.

George is a godsend. He shows you exactly what you need to improve on essays and allows as many rewrites of those essays as you like until you get the mark that you're happy with. Every aspect of the course is fun. He let us decide what courses he was to teach next year: we voted in 100 and he set up 401 the next year! If you do the work, you pass.
