Lectures aren't helpful for the papers he assign. Tough on grading. Changes syllabus almost every week. When you read assigned hw and videos, be ready to have water your time because he changes it up. Never confirms if he recieved your paper and will not know until he mentioned many people have not done hw. Needs to learn about technology

Professor Hanlon has been around forever, and he is very knowledgable. While the classes structure can be disorganized, he is a thorough and informative lecture. His lessons are valuable. This semester we had 2 main writing assignments (4 pgs each) and a final paper (12-14pgs). The workload is manageable. I look forward to taking him again.

Comment:
Worst professor I have experienced. He is knowledgeable, but he is not able to relay that knowledge clearly to students. The syllabus and class is unorganized, and many of the lectures are repeated. He gives papers out late, with very little time to turn it in. The textbooks were only helpful to do the essays. Avoid, if possible.

Definitely one of the worst professors I've ever had. He is so lost in class, making the students feel lost as well. His syllabus lacks assignments except the final paper. When he says he'll get something the next day, he'll forget, and then forget again the next day. Lectures are almost the same everyday. Extremely boring. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS

Professor Hanlon is one of the worst professors I've throughout my college experience. He is SO unorganized in everything he does. I did not receive my first grade for the semester until the 2nd to last week of class. Gives very uninteresting lectures that have nothing to do with the class. Did not learn anything at all in this class.

Comment:
This is a core class for the Urban Studies major but he makes it quite uninteresting. He speaks long, goes off on tangents and even when he asks for student's opinion, it's towards the end of the class where everyone is looking to leave. Only one final paper which I think is a disservice because student do not have a gauge for how they are doing.

He is very tough, 3 papers due but don't expect to get the same grade on every paper you write, he is very critical, detail matters, sentence structure matters, format, commas literally everything matters, be on your P's and Q's when it comes to your papers... Tough tough ... Did I mention tough!

I took 4 classes with Prof. Hanlon and it's now about 15 years later and I still think about many of his lessons regarding managing the public sector and transportation issues. He sparked in me an interest for the subject. He will put your writing to the test, so expect him to give a thorough critique. You'll become a better writer because of it.

Had him for urbst 207 last semester. Probably the worst professor Ive had my 4 years of college. Extremely, rude and mean on papers. Definitely wouldnt take again, stay away if you can. Mc Mansions, and Robert Moses, is all I heard all semester.

Comment:
Did well in course on writing assignments on transportation, does not create his own knowledge during the course, uses info from other sources, and restates constantly. Class is repetitive. I hear lectures about McMansions and Costco every week. Very dry, not a lot of opportunity to participate. Does not let students speak, non helpful essay feedbk

He is very unhelpful when you ask him questions. He only leaves negative feedback on papers. I agree. He scolds creativity, which is interesting since he is constantly asking you for your "opinion." He is not that smart, he just knows how to regurgitate other people's ideas.

Had him back in Fall 2001. Though not the most exciting, he was a good teacher. Talked in a very matter of fact tone and seemed to like his students. Dry sense of humor. Videos were interesting as well. Tests were somewhat difficult, but fair. Take good notes. Fair grader, nice man, good professor. I think he's a Mets fan too--extra bonus.
