Great guy but easily the worst professor I ever had in both undergrad and grad. I am confused by the positive ratings.

Both knowledgeable and experienced in financial industry. If you expect to learn financial skills in the textbook from his class, it would be a waste of his expertise. You should read the book in your own time, study news and market, and ask him questions. Only in this way can you realize how smart he is and how lucky you are to be at his lecture.

I took this professor as I didn't have a choice. His exams are pretty tough and he doesn't teach much. He lacks energy and his teaching skills are soporofic. DO NOT TAKE HIS COURSE.

Professor Altfest's incredible background in the finance field made his class an easy pick. He always related the book-work to real-life scenarios. His experience is such an asset to his students.

If you get this professor as an undergrad you truly hit the jackpot. He relates everything back to his real life experiences. Although his exams are tough, he curves when necessary

He is great at what he does but not so as a professor. His lectures are most of the time confusing and a bit messy. Goes off on a tangent that has nothing to do with the class. The book is more helpful at explaining certain concepts. Grading - 1 midterm, 1 Final, 2 long class papers , 1 bloomberg exam. You will need to work for your grade.

Not a very good professor, but good at what he does. Some people aren't meant to teach... Tends to curve a lot considering that he is unclear about what information you should know for the test (despite having review sheets). Wrote his own textbook, so make sure you know it.

I took Dr. Altfest for 652 and 674. He gives a lot of war stories, but you need to take them for more than face value. An excellent role model and individual to network with. He gives a review for exams, and u can use a cheat sheet! Just find the topics in the text book

Great professor, he does speak a bit slow but, his pauses are part of what he explains. I have taken other professors ranked better than him and honestly he is way better.

I liked him a lot. He tells a bunch of stories, which I found interesting. He is a little unclear about test dates and such, speaks a little slow, but he's still fair about grades. He curves, wants everyone to do well. You need the book and should probably read a chapter a week. I'd take him again. One of my favorite finance professors here.

Very knowledgable professor, lot of practical perspective has he owns an investment firm. Speaks quite slow, sometime maybe too slow. Tests are fair, and the term paper is quite useful, though you should really work hard on it

if you are looking for easy class at your last semester definetely take him although you have a long project which covers the whole book. but dont worry it is easy. you have a chance to get A. he tells alot of stories. so guess how it looks like being in class. it like listening stories before going bed sometimes

Knows his investment analysis, as he owns his own firm. Tests can be tricky. Make sure you study the theoretical aspects, as the CHITE sheet can only be used for formulas. The paper should be thorough because he knows his stuff. Take the bad comments on Altfest with a grain of salt...they're obviosly from ugrads who are still a little childish.

Really great at explaining financial planning & its theory. His case study really brought this stuff to life. A def. keeper! Study for the midterm, though - you really need to know your stuff to do well. I took away more than expected from this class.

You have to take Professor Altfest with a certain philosophy. Dont sit around and critisize his stories, listen to them and understand what he is saying. He does talk a lot, MANY stories, and his tests are not the easiest, but you have to take him, he'll help you LOADS in the future! Seriously! I love this guy!

Comment:
He is definitely not mean. He does talk about himself a lot. His test are a little difficult, but they are all multiple choice. He gives HUGE curves. He allows cheat sheets and he doesn't care how long the sheet is or what you put on it.
