This is the best class at TCU! It fills up quickly so sign up asap!Dr. Garwell is the best! You must come to class and you need to buy the text book. Tests are multiple choice. Most entertaining class I've ever taken!

Easiest class I've ever taken! Garwell is EXTREMELY nice and an expert at music. He tells you the first day that 95% oof the test are the PowerPoint slides. Go to class and copy the slides word for word and you'll get an easy A!!!!!

His class is really interesting with lots of music videos and clips. GO TO CLASS, he takes attendance every day. He uses the exact same notes every year so it's really easy to find somebody to give you theirs from previous years and just follow along. literally verbatim. Tests aren't too hard; The listening portion is the only hard part. Fun class!

Meh.. I hear there are better fine arts classes out there. Class is sometimes interesting, but usually pretty boring. Tests are very ambiguous and difficult to study for. I pulled out an A, but most my friends got Bs. He's very passionate about his class and is extremely nice outside of the classroom, but maybe look into taking survey of theater.

Garwell is clearly passionate about his course. The tests were pretty difficult for me, but those who already knew a lot about the subject had a much easier time. He does ask arbitrary questions from lectures and the book, the first month is slow, and I hated all of his t/f questions. However, the class and prof are both fantastic overall!

Garwell is obviously an expert on the subject and the material is interesting. Lots of videos and sound clips. Also lots of note taking. Tests are rather challenging but not impossible. GO to class. seriously. it's impossible to catch everything if you don't, and the things you missed will probably be on the test.

I thought this class was much harder than it should have been. If you LOVE music then this class may be much easier for you. But it is A LOT of memorization. Class is fun, but exam days really stink! About 2-4 pages of notes per class and you have to know EVERYTHING in his notes. I mean every single detail or else you could really get screwed on th

I took from Rock to Bach-he is starting to teach it a little bit harder. The class is so fun to go to, but his tests are really hard! So good luck if you decide to take this. Easy to pass but extremely difficult to make an A. STUDY REALLY HARD FOR HIS EXAMS!!! I would try to find an easier class.

This is a great GPA booster and a really interesting class! There are 4 tests; The first one is the most difficult, but other than that, the tests are straight from the notes. Roughly 3-4 pages of notes per class, all on PowerPoint. Offers extra credit (5 points per test). Highly recommend! P.S., you could probably get away without the textbook...

If you enjoy more than one kind of music and don't go into this class expecting to hear just your favorite band, you will love it. If you take notes and do the extra credit you will make an A. attendance is recorded so if you have to be there just pay attention then you barely have to study. plus if you just get the cd the book is optional.

Professor Garwell is a great teacher. He's always in a good mood and is easy to understand. The class involves listening to his lectures, watching videos/listening to music, and A LOT OF NOTE TAKING (so know what you're getting into before you take it). Tests are okay if you study the book and notes. Overall, it's a fun class, but not for everyone.

I didn't like from Rock to Bach. I thought it was a hard class and really boring. This was the first semester he taught the class harder and used a different book. I studied and still didn't do well on the test. Make sure you know your notes super well for tests. Do the 20 points extra credit for sure!

Pretty easy, fun class, I definatly recommend it. Take notes though, or else you might struggle. Class is pretty fun except some of his opnions on the important music is skewd. On hard rock day you listen to Nickelback and Christina Aguillara...wtf....

Great musician, terrible singer, enjoyable class. Do a little studying and the listening assignments and you'll do great. I did the 20 point extra credit paper and ended up with a 104% in the class.

Great teacher very helpful. Be prepared to take 4 pages of notes a class. I am not good at music got an A. This class is way harder than it needs to be. Extra 20 points on test grade if you go to a musical. It's fun at first then gets really old, lots of notes. But he is in a great mood every day.
