I loved Professor Hilder. If you follow and pay attention and invest in this class you will do well. If you struggle, set up a meeting with her and ask her for her advice. She is really willing to help you succeed if you are motivated to do so. I learned a lot and would love to take a class with her again. Tough grader but fair.

Extremely tough marker, she said it herself "This will be the hardest class you take in college." A first year english course that you are being forced to take should not be the hardest course you take in college.

Hilder is lovely - she is very kind and cares about her students! She's a tough grader, though. Make sure you thoroughly edit your papers for her class. Her lectures always inspire me. Even when class is over I'm still thinking about the material we discussed. She encourages me to keep pursuing my dreams of English and creative writing.

Hilder is a kind professor. Her classes were good and she encouraged group discussion. However, she is a very hard marker. Let go of your hopes for an A in English. Hilder marks me down for "not going into detail, being specific, and 'dig deeper" in a 400-word IN-CLASS essay. Even after 'digging deeper' I still got low marks on later assignment.

Dr. Hilder is extremely sweet and is very passionate about her subject. I highly recommend her course if you enjoy the Inklings. She is by no means an easy marker, but I have found her to be a fair one.

Honestly, Hilder is nice enough as a person, however, not nice enough to distract from the heartbreaking mark you will get in her english classes. No matter what you do, or say, or change to follow her feedback on your papers - nothing seems to warrant a good grade from this woman. The best thing you can do is try for a good participation mark...

Hilder is one of the hardest markers @ TWU, I hate to say it but it's very unlikely that your papers & GPA will escape her unscathed. If you do find yourself in one of her courses; attend EVERY class (she takes attendance) & work hard in the group projects (creativity is key) - these two will be your grades lifeline.

Monika's class was probably the toughest course I've taken thus far in my degree (I'm second year), but she is seriously one of the most inspirational and caring profs I've ever had. She is incredibly intelligent and insightful. She genuinely cares for all of us. The way she implements a deep Christian implication to the course is admirable.

In my experience, Dr. Hilder started off as my least favourite professor. She is a hard marker and really appreciates class participation and discussion. However, as soon as I went to her in her office about a paper, she told me how to fix it. I went from a C+ to an A. She is very sweet and cares about her students, but you have to put in the work.

I love Dr. Hilder's classes, but she is a hard marker. There is a lot of reading and sometimes the lectures are dry, but she's very sweet. She cares about her students and their opinions.

I enjoyed being in Mrs. Hilder's class. I am not an English major, so I am not too interested in the actual English teaching. We had some pleasant discussions and novel studies, and she gives good feedback, although she can grade on the tough side. I had a nice semester in English 103, but I am glad to not have to do any more.

Monika is a lovely professor. She is potentially one of the most intelligent, insightful individuals I have ever met - which can sometimes be intimidating - but she encourages her students to participate in a way that is entirely comfortable. Despite what some of these reviews say I found her grading to be incredibly fair and feedback super helpful

Hilder is not a good teacher. She rambles about fantasy novels that hardly apply to the class and is completely biased in her marking. In a personal response essay she told me my view was wrong. Definitely has favorites.
