Nature of Persons with Dr. Talbot is a challenging class, with complex reading material and exacting standards for assignments. But Dr. Talbot understands that this is difficult stuff and will help you in any way he can. He answers questions very patiently, cares about his strudents, and is an incredible testament to the transforming grace of God.

I could listen to this professor talk all day. He is a fountain of wisdom and will challenge students to read and think carefully. He is one-of-a-kind and will definitely make you read and think a ton! However, the work is well worth it, esp. for students who love to learn! He mostly speaks the whole time, but is very knowledgeable and humble.

This is a pretty difficult class, with plenty of reading and lecture-heavy classes. It takes a lot of mental work to think through the material, but Dr. Talbot cares about his students and does well to help with their understanding. This class really challenged me, but I learned a lot about the significance of what it means to be a created person.

Dr. Talbot's classes are not for the faint of heart but I very highly recommend him. He is one of the most wise, humble, and kind men I've ever met, and though the work was incredibly difficult, I learned valuable critical thinking, reading, and writing skills that are transferable to any discipline.

Almost two years out of school, Dr. Talbot's class is still the most influential I have ever taken. It wasn't even a major requirement, and I still think about it almost daily. He is incredibly wise, incredibly challenging, and expanded my thinking about scripture and humanity like none other. The Wheaton education is incomplete without him.

Don't leave without taking a class from Dr. Talbot. I don't like philosophy, and I struggled in the beginning to see why what we were studying mattered. I honestly feel that I'm such a better reader after his class, and just a better person. The lessons I learned in the classroom were important, but equally as important was learning I could do it.

Dr. Talbot has really high standards for reading texts of philosophy. His Intro to Philosophy class won't teach you philosophy itself but it will teach you how to read really hard texts in a way you haven't before. It is not for the faint of heart. Get ready to read!

Dr. Talbot is the best professor I have had yet at Wheaton. Although his class is not heavy on teaching philosophy material, he provides his students with the tools necessary (reading and thinking well) to take on the tough material. Dr. Talbot is a major catalyst in my choosing to major in Philosophy. I hope to be taking many more of his courses.

Comment:
This class is much more about how to read texts than philosophy itself. Talbot will teach you how to think more critically, but you won't learn much philosophy at all. Be prepared not to write a single paper and instead look for textual divisions. He integrates scripture more often than he does philosophy and it can be extremely frustrating.

Comment:
Dr Talbot's clarity and knowledge are unparalleled, particularly on the subject of suffering. His handle on the topic was both sensitive and unapologetic in its adherence to Scripture. He takes student comments seriously, and does not shy away from difficult questions. Your Wheaton education is incomplete without having taken one of his classes!

Not organized at all. He ended up not finishing the class so we have to study 1/4 of the course material on our own. A very biased Calvinist. He uses Lewis's "Problem of Pain", which is not properly a philosophical book, as the representative position of free will, and trashed it in class while using 3 scholarly articles to defend himself.

The best professor I've had at Wheaton, by far. Many people will try to scare you off by telling you how hard this class is, but in reality it's not that bad. Even if you find it difficult, by the end of the class you will emerge a much better student and thinker. Listening to him and conversing with him was the most enjoyable part of the class

Talbot's classes are topical, but they are even more about learning how to read and analyze texts. You will absolutely read and re-read everything assigned if you want the slightest chance of an A. You will also leave a much better student. While I don't love his super analytical style, his undeniable warmth and openness make me a big fan.

He's gonna teach you two life-impacting method: how to read and how to think. Tremendously important stuff for all college students. He is grading on a curve and it's even harder to fail the class than getting an A. Practice the reading method he taught u and apply it everywhere and spent time on the assignments and you will be fine.

Dr. Talbot's class was likely one of the most difficult I have taken at Wheaton so far. That shouldn't necessarily discourage taking his class though. I didn't put in the necessary effort and earned a poor grade. If, however, you want to learn a ton from a dedicated, caring man and are willing to do the work, I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Talbot

Ah, Talbot. Prepare to move at an agonizingly slow pace, doing ridiculously thorough analysis. Prepare to get low grades on most assignments. Prepare to wonder why you bothered taking the class at all. But $10 says you did because someone told you Talbot cares about students, cares about the faith, and is absolutely Wheaton's best prof. And he is. (Take Nature of Persons if you can; he'd call it his best class.)

Dr. Talbot is incredibly difficult. But, I pity anyone that decides not to take him because of that. You will learn more in his classes than in any other class at Wheaton. Furthermore, what you learn will change the way you live and think. If you have any way of taking his class, take it!

One of the most brilliant men I have ever talked to, but hated the class. His TA's do most of his grading so it's nearly impossible to meet expectations. The grades average around 50% in the first quad, and maybe move up to 75% in the next. He curves, but not enough. Loses the forest in the trees in this class. Do NOT take him for an intro course..
