He asks very vague questions, and then gets mad when no one answers them. Lots of reading, lectures are everywhere.

Class went normal in the beginning, as we got farther into the semester he strayed more and more from the syllabus. He eventually made up work. He never graded anything and left us in the dark on our grades.

Thought I checked Rate My Professor before signing up for every class. Apparently not this one. Halfway through the semester I looked him up on here and wished I had known. You will not know what your grade is until the end of the semester. Don't bother making appointments to see him, he won't show up. Papers are impossible and long.

I first took Donovan for Soldiers and Guerillas in Latin America as a core but decided to take his terrorism seminar as an elective. You'll have to do some reading, but Donovan reviews in depth during lecture in case you miss anything. Very willing to meeting with students and help. This man is a great teacher as long as you're an active student

Interesting man, not the best professor. Lectures are long and usually unclear, but he's willing to help or clarify if you ask. No tests, but a lot of papers and book reading!

Dr. Donovan is definitely a nice guy and very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about what he teaches. However, he is a little disorganized and unavailable. He never seemed to respond to my emails and he seemed intolerant of alternate opinions but more in an argumentative way than a dismissive one. Expect to read a lot of bad books for this class.

I had high hopes for this class. Nice man, but the lectures were long. Expect random readings, boring movies for class and to have quizzes on them. 15 page term paper I'm sure he never actually read. I wouldn't if I were you.

He is a great professor. All around nice guy, if you go to his office hours he is extremely kind and open to you. Really wants to see people succeed. A lot of reading but you learn a lot based upon discussion.

Responded to every email I sent him and was more than willing to help me with the assignments. Most of the assignments are written, and expects the best one can give. Take notes and READ the required texts.

Dr. Donovan is a great guy who loves what he teaches. He is in no way an easy professor to have, but he is very fair and will help you if you come to him. Don't expect to pass his class not doing any of the work. As long as you follow what he says, the class will go by smoothly and it will actually turn out to be really interesting.

This is one of the classes where you are expected to read but you can get away with summaries online. All people have to worry about is the papers and the midterm. The Final is relatively easy since its basically using the midterm and papers for the final. I feel asleep many times in that class and I got an A. Just focus on papers mainly

no tests, weekly write ups, pay attention to the page numbers he assigns otherwise you'll do the wrong section of reading (whoops), big final paper that you really should start early so it's not so daunting, really informative if you get it out of him, huge discussion based class, not about dates and facts, about showing you read.

I really enjoyed having Professor Donovan. He's very funny and clearly very passionate about what he does. He is available for help and even made a visit to his office required of our class before the midterm. The material isn't hard but the readings and films are very confusing and he will call you out in class for answers about them.

Bill Donovan is the greatest teacher in the world if you are a pessimist. Do you love not knowing anything about your grade? Definitely take into consideration that he loves himself more than anything on this planet. Books and movies are really interesting if you speak every language and like not knowing whats going on around you. Good Luck...

He gives grades without reasoning. He looked over my paper and said it was good and I still was not happy with the grade I recieved. I would not recommend him to anyone.

Dr. Donovan is very interested and knowledgeable in what he teaches. We had 2 papers around 4 quizzes a midterm and a final. He is a tough grader, but if you go to office hours he will help you. Quizzes are on books we read outside of class.

He is an awful teacher! I would strongly advise anybody not to take his class. He will go out of his way to call you out in class. Also, you will not receive any of your grades back throughout the whole year and he will ignore all of your emails.

Pretty tough professor. You will kill your printer if you take his class because of all the lectures you need to print. Disorganized. Books assigned to read within a week of each other with quizzes following in which they have absolutely nothing to deal with the books. If you have to take him, go see him in his office he tries to help you.

Not a bad guy. If you have the opportunity, do service learning, I got out of an 8 page paper because of it. Class can get tough but just go and talk to him about what you're learning and you should be fine.
