he's a sweet, wonderful guy, but the class was a little difficult for 100-level. definitely wouldn't recommend if you've never taken a philosophy class. if you have some phi background, you might be ok. textbook was very difficult to read. his TA's are WONDERFUL, rely on them!!!

Teach is beyond monotone. I enjoy this class but I cant stand it! I would try as hard as I can to not fall asleep but that is impossible. Also letures have a mandatory attendance sheet that if you dont attend, the highest you can get is a C.If you do take this class, I recommend recording it because he speaks so fast you cant keep up in note taking

Don't take unless you're interested in political philosophy. The prof is amazing. The people complaining did not take the class seriously and didn't read. Test questions given a week early but expect to get emails from idiot students asking for answers. Take extensive notes from day one. I got an A w/o going to the optional discussion section.

Do yourself a favor and run the other way. Unless of course you like stodgy old men who ramble monotonously about political philosophy and very plainly tell you that your own opinions are unimportant. You get the exams a week in advance to prepare essays for them but I almost guarantee its because everyone would fail otherwise.

DO NOT TAKE AS A DEC REQUIREMENT. Teacher is nice, but his lectures are as confusing as arabic. The T.A.'s try to help but this class isnt for someone who isnt intrigued by politcal philosophy. ALL FRESHMAN AVOID! Hard to get an A

Great guy but hard to follow. Long lectures tend to be boring and not too helpful. Lectures painful and meandering. Textbook more concise but definitely a difficult class.

The problem is not with the prof but with the students. This is NOT an easy DEC course - don't take it unless you're interested in political philosophy. If you ARE interested, Howard is a great professor. He really knows his stuff and makes comparisons to modern politics (which is helpful to some and just further confuses others). Not an easy A!

The most boring class ever. He just rambles on, its clear more than half the people in the class aren't even awake. Gives you the essay questions before the test, but they ask for too much info in too little time. Don't take this class.

So, Prof Howard is terribly boring. The subject itself is not at all interesting which is doubly bad. He assigns texts which he has admitted to not understanding, and he's the teacher. I often lose focus after 5 min. Luckily, the TA for my discussion group is really good, otherwise i woudlve failed the first test.

Howard was awsome. Every lecture was soo interesting. Turned out to be my favorite class that semester. Although its tons of work, just plan you essays, record his lectures (I used a mac, Garage Band). Its a hard class but rewarding.

YOU MUST go to lectures and take good notes to succeed in this class. Discussion sections are a big help as well. This class requires a lot of work and studying for tests, so do not take it if you are only casually interested in the subject. However, Howard is easy to listen to and is passionate about his lectures.

As everyone said, this class can be rugged. However...I missed a lot of classes and never once went to a discussion section. Just take extremely good notes during the lectures (which can prove to be an arduous task as I found his lectures to be packed with important material) and go to discussion sections the week before the test and you're gold.

Incredibly boring class. Don't know if it's Howard himself or just the material. The textbook is next to useless, it's so dense and can be so confusing that you're better off taking notes (though that's rarely worthwhile) or using Wikipedia or Sparknotes. I got an A, the final (three essays) was a killer and his exams are convoluted essay tasks.

Obscene amount of work for a 100 level class, impossible (but not necessary) text, long rambling lectures. He's funny if you actually pay attention to him, and he relates the concepts to current events which makes it easier to understand. hard to stay awake, but if you do,youll do just fine

The people who rate him as difficult haven't been taking the same class I have, apparently. The lectures are well organized and you don't have to read, he presents ALL the information for you. You get the tests a week ahead of time, and they're straightforward questions that guide you through the answer by the hand. The TAs are also great.

i get a's in this class, but signing up for it was the worst decision i have made all year. the work level is more appropirate to a 300 lvl course. i have put in more time into this one class than my other classes COMBINED, all of which are 200 or 300 lvls. i am pissed. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

the class is pretty boring but you don't really need to pay attention. go to the optional recitations and pay attention there and you'll do fine. the tests are essays and he gives them to you in advance. if you want to do well all you have to do is write the essays in advance and memorize it.

worst professor ever. half the time he relates what he's saying to politics today, further confusing the blank faces staring back at him. he does no work, his TA's do, and they're no help. he has "optional" discussion sections which should be mandatory recitations. he takes attendance and somehow implies that it matters. dont take this class/prof.

i actually think prof howard is brilliant. knowledgable, clever, interesting. 105's actually my favortie class. attendance is mandatory.& i have2admit that the level of wk4 a 100level class is a bit absurd, but if ur willn2wk hard n go2lecture, u'll do fine
