The class is based purely on self-teaching. Reading the section and doing the homework on your own before it is taught and talked about in class. Exams are weighted at 90% of the grade so you must do well on all to pass. Exams give new and extremely challenging questions that have never been seen in class.

Very enthusiastic, enjoys teaching but not great at it. Often makes mistakes while teaching causing confusion throughout the class. the tests did not line up with what we did for homework daily and different from what he taught. Entertaining for about 25 minutes but after that the class drags on. Very passionate, fashionable.

Tests reflect very little of what is taught in class or book. Does not respond to emails asking for help and assigned reading does little to prepare you for test. If you want to pass this class I suggest finding your own teaching materials and focus on that.

This class (Calc 3) was really hard, not gonna lie. Dr. Lyons would sometimes make mistakes while explaining problems and have to go back and fix it, which would throw us off a bit. Exams are hard, and account for 90% of the class grade. But Lyons is very enthusiastic and offers office hours and is happy to help if you show up.

Although he's a nice guy, his class was pretty difficult for me. I would study for hours at a time and still get a C on a test i thought i passed with flying colors. Lectures are boring and hard to follow at times but he is willing to help outside of class. He barely puts any grades in the system so if you don't do well on tests, you wont do well..

Best math class yet in my experience. Somehow students in this class had a very negative mind set, and they are majors! But the subject was interesting, even if it was hard, and Dr. Lyons really made us think, and always had interesting, helpful things to say. He was always encouraging and postive in person. Had him for calc. explains things well, but tests are hard an confusing even if you know what you're doing. chooses weird problems to test you on. door is always open and he is always willing to make time for you if you need help. funny guy!

He was the worst professor/teacher I have ever had. I already a fairly thorough calc course in high school and I was still completely lost. This man cannot clearly explain anything.

Makes stat easy, as long as you pay attention and do the work. Willing to go over ANY question from ANY homework, quiz, test, etc. Tests and quizzes are representative of homework; just pay attention to the big topics in class. The only problem is that he sometimes strays off topic with wild tangents, and you're left feeling confused sometimes.

i was very worried about taking a college stats course but having dr. lyons made stats easy for me. he didn't require a lot of work an would take the time to go over any problems we had. he also frequently let us out of class early. however, his tests and quizzes are sort of blind as he never put familiar questions on them.
