Comment:
The course material is useless, he is not at all politically correct, the way he runs the class is extremely outdated, constantly leaves you wondering what your grade is, project requirements are vague and unclear, has you do a ton of work for the project and barely looks at it, not very understanding when it comes to extenuating circumstances

He is the most interesting professor I have ever had, and he teaches very well. He also wrote many great sci-fi novels which are very popular in Asia. I have read them all. Definitely check them out!

If you do not care about the material, your g.p.a, or your love for computer science, take this class and you'll get a B. If you do care do not take this professor, ever, for anything. You'll nod out for every mandatory class and just when you think you've earned yourself a C+ or B+, think again because he doesn't do +/-'s. 370 chars isn't enough.

Didn't show up to his own office hours, made final exam accommodations and then went back on his word afterwards, the class content is worthless. You pour so much blood and sweat into the project and he barely checks it over, looks for buzzwords or if a table was included in your docs and just gives points based off of that. Tests made no sense.

Chang is a walking argument against tenure. He teaches outdated material off of plain HTML slides, grades milestones based on a whim, and makes up his own material. While this class is easy to get an A in, you won't really learn anything valuable. This is a shame considering Software Engineering is arguably the most important class in Pitt CS

Comment:
Terrible professor. He arbitrarily assigns grades depending on how you present your team's milestones. His assignments are always unclear which almost always leads to losing points. Quizzes and tests are pure memorization of material on his horribly laid out website. Nothing you learn is useful in a professional environment

Comment:
Exams/quizzes typically include things that weren't discussed in lectures, or are based on strict memorization. Group project is a joke and he grades based on quantity, not quality. Project barely goes with the class material. If you actually want to learn something, take another class or lecturer (e.g. 1520).

Comment:
Tests have questions that contradict the course material or were barely covered at all. The main project is a poor fit for the material taught in class. Requirements are incredibly unclear, basically every group in the class will regularly lose points for the same thing because Dr. Chang wasn't clear enough.

Terrible class. Let us out after 30 minute. No one knew what was going on. I still don't know what I was supposed to have learned in the class. Unclear and very rude. Told me to stop asking him for help because he didn't know.

Nice guy, but his lectures are so boring. This was intro to web design and I almost feel like I could have read a book on html and learned just as much. There were 2 quizzes, 2 exams, and a final project. The class was poorly structured, but it wasn't extremely hard. I'd recommend a different professor if you really want to learn html though.

He is very unclear, so if you want to actually learn anything about software, don't take 1631 or 1530. If you need an easy upper level requirement, take these! As long as you do EXACTLY what he is looking for, you'll get an A. Don't worry about trying to learn what or why. If he says you need a cover page, make a cover page or you lose points.

Invents own material. You will learn NOTHING useful in the real world and waste a ton of time. Assignments were not programming. You will never discuss even the most basic things related to software engineering. Grading seems arbitrary - especially your final grade. He wrote himself into Wikipedia and bragged about it in class. Avoid at all costs.

The worst lecturer I've had. Teaches many things that are not applicable in the real world (source: co-oping). Class fairly unorganized. Teaches from his own poorly-made website. Tests are memorization. Project is mostly documentation. I feel like I learned nothing about engineering software. I would write more, but I ran out of characters. Ugh.

Has no idea what he's talking about. Invents his own material/ideas. Teaches from his horribly designed website, with no semblance of order. If you want to learn, take ANY other teacher. The project isn't hard, but I don't have any motivation to try or pay attention, even though I am interested in software engineering
