At first you might want to drop the class, but stick around, his class is easy if you show up and keep up with the work. He doesn't like technology, no cell phones or laptops. He brings cookies everyday though and really knows about Greece. Overall a great guy.

Really nice! He brings cookies every class, lets you out early, and all you do in class is translate the book. No homework at all. Take him!

Gross is such a great guy. He feeds us cookies each class, and lets us out early every day. He's so laid back when it comes to grades, etc. He tells you these elaborate stories that leave you scratching your head. You can't help but smile at the confusing punch line. He's a very caring professor when it comes to his students. Take him, he's easy!

sweet old man, gives cookies at the beginning of every class and ALWAYS lets out early. you just go around the room translating, nothing too interesting, but he likes to tell stories (often the same stories...). easy class, but you'll only learn if you want to (i.e. actually look at the materials outside of class, which is otherwise not necessary)

Pathetic example of what a University class should be like. We did nothing but watch movies in class, and our "homework" was to read five to ten pages from the text book a week. You'd think it'd make an easy A, but when he loses your papers and then gets snippy with you about it, it's a different story. I wouldn't recommend Gross to anyone!!!

Dr. Gross is awesome!!! Yes, he goes off on tangents, but you can learn a lot from them. And he tells you up front that you have to work on your own from the book--you're responsible for your own education. He's very willing to help if you ask. Plus, he brings cookies.

Class was a waste of time. If it didn't fulfill a requirement, I would have never taken it. It was easy as sin, but utterly pointless. I can honestly say I learned very little in this class other than how to connect Star Wars to multiple cultures.

Oh, he isn't so bad. I mean, you won't take the class unless you like Latin. He goes off on tangents once in a while, and stutters, but he is like 75 years old and it doesn't hurt anything. I learned a lot. You just read out of the textbook every class, which is useful for this language, I think. He should go over grammar more.

Gross is a nice but crazy old man who makes absolutely no sense at all! You mostly spend class watching movies. Five papers are due at the end of the semester, they aren't bad and he'll give you a chance to revise them!

I hardly know any latin and did nothing for this class except take the final exam (which is open-book/dictionary) and got an A. Extremely boring, but also very easy.

Boring, worthless class. He doesn't teach anything. Go around the room and read latin. Going to class would be a waste of time if participation wasn't worth 1/3 of the grade.

Very willing to help out. Easy as hell to get an A if you just make an ounce of effort (don't be fooled tho - some people HAVE failed! shocking but true.) The downside is that if you don't have the drive to teach yourself and really do the work, then you won't learn or retain any of the information from the language courses. If you want more than an easy A, get another professor. He's a font of knowledge tho, the sweetest old man, and gives you cookies.

Make sure you know what texts you can use on the tests. People were written up for plagerism because he said that we could use any books we wanted on the final. I did and he said it was plagerism. Nice guy, smart, keeps class intersting, funny, stories

I love the inflation nostalgia and the cookies, but honestly I haven't learned any latin. Class is pointless. And he went crazy on this year's final, making it harder than anything Geisecke gave us in 213 and that class was much harder. WTF Gross?
