Comment:
Thorpe is a friendly and smart guy. Wants you to learn and do well. Gives a pretty broad view on biochem (compared to some of the other profs like Chen). Grading is 2 exams + final only. Should attend lectures to get the little details he tests on, but his review sessions are most helpful before exams. Generous curve, but some people struggle

Thorpe is great! It's a 500 level biochem course, don't expect it to be easy, but it was a very interesting class. Make sure you understand every question on every practice test. Office hours are helpful. Pretty much only tests on class notes, but textbook helps clarify things. Also, he is a hilarious British guy. Wish I could take him again

Comment:
Less chemistry, and more biology than expected. Thorpe can be quite unclear and confusing at times, but overall gives a decent overview of things, especially if lectures are supplemented by a bit of book reading. He is VERY funny. Helpful in office hours. Do practice tests and understand them, and you will be fine. Grade distribution is generous.

I just straight up hate biochemistry but Thorpe is an engaging lecturer. Make sure you do all the practice exams before your own exam.

DEFINITELY take this class over 641. The first part of the class is easier than the rest, so don't cut class because it seems easy at first! If you go to class and do the work, an A is completely do-able. Plus his accent is awesome

He's ok when its obviously a topic he is interested in. However, when it comes to stuff he is clearly not concerned with (ie glycolysis) he doesn't do so well explaining. He's a hard grader, but fair. The class average is a B (even if the average is a 50%)

He is a terrible professor, who believes he should have questions on the exam that we've never seen before. His lectures are very boring, the quizzes are easy, but the exams are hard. No real need for the book!

Dr. Thorpe is a terrible teacher; the worst teacher I have ever had. He is hard to understand, flies through the material, and makes no sense. His test questions are designed to trick you. Thorpe should be banned from UD.

he's ok. his lectures are boring and put you to sleep, and you can't talk in his class, cuz he'll point you right out and ask what ur question is. lab is easy, quizzes aren't bad, exams are hard. don't buy the textbook, you don't need it

Amusing British accent, makes odd/funny comments. Text really not needed. Big curve for tests, but they are pretty tough. Very willing to go through anything in office hours, does not treat you like an idiot if you do not know something.

No real need for text. Class doesn't apply to material on exam, review quizes and old exams. He is helpful if you go to him after class. Drops lowest quiz grade, NOT test grade. Challenging, not impossible...almost interesting, but not quite.

His exams have nothing on them that he teaches in class. He only gives you definitions which are not on the exams. If you can, avoid taking this class.
