exams are very difficult, tough on grading. class averages are typically pretty low. put a good amount of time into your workshops/term paper. he gives feedback on exams and workshops in class, max/mean/min scores for each and how he graded them. understand the material and how to apply it. i found the material interesting and enjoyed the course.

This class was very tough. Test 1 Average: 26.9, Test 2 Average: 43.7, Test 3 Average: 58.5. Lectures are very informative, and Dr. Hall does gauge the students' understanding of the material well, but you have to internalize material and present it thoroughly on the exams to do well. My total class average was a 55, which put me at a B. No Final.

Very tough grader. The assigned workshops were extremely confusing and took forever to figure out. He is very vague when asked for help. Low average on all tests so do not get too discouraged, just pay attention and study hard.

Comment:
He occasionally jokes around, but the lectures were dry and rambling. Sometimes he likes to call on people to answer a question about the material. Assignments are long, tedious, and quite confusing, but he is in his office for help. His tests are very hard, focus on applications of lecture material. Average was 30. Warning: slack off and fail.

This was the hardest course I have taken at UH. He grades the short answer exams very tough. You may know the answer, but you better explain it very clearly. For the assignments, you must use outside sources. The key to this class is the textbook. Read it before lecture and after. Read Read Read and you may get a C. Awesome professor though.

I loved the class. Hall explains things well. He warned us about 2 of the exam questions. It really boiled down to if you remembered calculus or not. I panicked about the final, studied a lot.

Dr. Hall is tough, extremely tough. Expect to work like a madman, consult all suggested sources, and attend every class. He is also awesome. Witty, intelligent, sharp as a razor. Going to class is challenging, because it's intimidating stuff, but rewarding, because he's so much fun. European grading system -- a C is considered good.

Dr. Hall is easily one of the best professors I've ever had, but his tests and assignments are exceedingly difficult. He expects you to take what hes taught in class and go 3-4 steps further in figuring it out. Def use online resources and texts for studying and assigments. Anything over a C in his class is an acheivement

Intro to Geophysics. Very Hard. Test average was 40/100. Explains very clearly. Answers your questions. Tests over things that are way beyond the scope of the lectures. Read through suggested books. Learn how he tests or you will fail. You will have to study your ass off. You will learn a lot of geophysics whether you want to or not.

This Class is extreemly hard. The lectures are not hard to understand, but his homework and tests are impossible. Good luck if you have to take this class and say bye to you GPA. He is very polite though. As a person, he is very nice.
