Comment:
Professor Ayik is a very smart professor and I will give him that, however, he expects you to know physics just like he does. Most of the test and quiz questions were nothing like what we went over in class. He likes to talk into the board and with his accent, you heard a muffled, mumbling voice. The notes put on the board were not helpful.

I like him as a person, but he is a terrible professor. Yes, college can be difficult, but it is a professor's responsibility to make the content of a course as understandable as possible. His accent and mumbling makes it very difficult to follow along in class, he puts nothing online, and he structures the class in a completely ridiculous way.

The grades were based heavily on the test and quizzes. The homework did not match the lectures, the quizzes didnt match the labs or lecture. And nothing matched what we were supposed to Learn

At first I thought it was his accent. It's not. Because even after I figured it out, his lectures were impossible to follow. Condescending in class. Looks at students like they are roaches if they don't answer his questions, and if you answer it wrong he acts like the answer should have been obvious and you're an imbecile. Avg class test score: 40

People seem to not know that he is a graduate of Yale University. He may not be the best teacher but there is something to be said about taking a class from an intelligent professor, his accent is thick but understandable. i personally found it an enjoyable albeit difficult class. Just read the book+lecture notes and it is easier. College is hard.

Worst teacher I ever had. Do not take him. Its not his accent I promise. He is not very personable with his students and whenever I or anybody asked a question in class he was not very patient with us and made us feel stupid. Only take him if you are very good at teaching yourself the material. Quizzes come from examples in class.

You will get used to the accent, but he is useless in class. Going to his office is better, but he does not work homework problems that he assigns. On several occasions he didn't know how to work them. Get the solution manual for hw help. There is also an unofficial even answers one. Watch Murdock's lectures. Google "tntech David Murdock"

Look, he's not the easiest professor, but there is hope for you if you read the book and make outlines for yourself. Also, don't be afraid to go to his office and ask him for help. He's usually there from 8am to 5pm and will stop what he's doing to help you. Thick accent, but not too bad if you have eastern European family/friends.

Look, If you're brave enough to take physics at Tech, you're going to be fighting a losing battle in any case, no matter what professor. The trick is to read the book. Ayik isn't too bad once you get used to him, but his examples are bad, and he can be a bit biting in his remarks sometime. I put in a lot of work and had to try to earn my A.

All you need to do is read the text,it is pretty much mandatory if you don't want to take notes since he simply reads the book to the class. As long as you read the book you should be fine, trust me I have him for many many classes. Test come from the homework and his notes only. So make sure to know what he covers in class.

YES, but if you just want to pass, you dont need to put whole lot of effort in there, you can just pass the class with 35 so if you do all homework its a piece of cake. but you'll get nothin' I had learned much more physics in my statics class.

You might as well teach yourself the material. Going to class is a waste of time. The tests are impossible. take this class somewhere else. be prepared to get reamed by every assignment/quiz/test.

You might be better off reading from the book during lecture rather than listening to him. While he does know his stuff (he actually got an award for outstanding research this year), his methods of teaching could use some work.

Dr. Ayik is extremely intimidating. And, as anyone will tell you, physics (I and especially II) is extremely hard. However, he WILL help you. Regardless of the fact that he can be quite abrasive, he is in fact a nice guy. I recommend his class over the other sections. He is fair. Go to class, read the book, do your own homework, and study a lot.

First off: Dr. Ayik's accent is not difficult to understand. However, I had a difficult time understanding what he wanted us to do on tests and quizzes. When you have a problem with something, he does as little as possible to help you. In class, he "writes beautiful notes on the board and spends an hour shouting at variables". (quoting a friend)
