If I could rate him with a 0 I would. Physics is hard regardless of the professor, but it is much harder when the professor does not help or work with the student at all. I am taking Dr. Shriner during COVID and all I can say is that so far he is unwilling to help. If you go to tech and are having to take physics 2 take it somewhere else. Had a 3.0

Terrible. He seems to take pleasure in telling his students when they're wrong. The tests are straight up designed for students to fail. Dropping the grading scale to 56 for a C and students still dropping means the class is too tough, or the teacher is terrible. In this case it's both.

Most students seem to get C in this class. He doesn't realize that his class is confusing and boring. He thinks the average low grade is because students are stupid.

I had him for Physics 2 Lab. He's an awful teacher. He only helps people who are already great at physics 2 and doesn't care about the rest who he decides are stupid. Im hard working and do well in my engineering classes but physics 2 I had trouble with. He didnt help and spoke to me like I was worthless. Hes a crotchety old man and needs to retire

Dr. Shriner at his best was really excitable about physics and you can tell he really enjoys it but at his worst he's kind of unhelpful and a seriously tough grader.

I had him for Physics 2 lab. At least in the lab he was very helpful. When I asked a question he would sit down and lead me to the answer. I can't say how he is in the lecture, but he seems to be a nice guy.

This class is stupid hard, but it isn't impossible like most people make it out to be. A lot of outside studying is required, and online homework can be fussy at times. Do the homework, find extra homework problems online to do, and watch Walter Lewin's lectures online as well, because Shriner and Walter both taught me this course...

He is a very strict grader (counted off a point for putting an "irrelevant equation" in the margin of my quiz, even though I got the problem right...), and flies through the material. But with some outside studying, you should at least pass. But be warned: If you don't know you're stuff, don't ask for help. He'll make you feel worthless.

This class is completely useless. An A is 80 or above. This is not because the tests are hard. Its because the professors are so horrible at writing tests that all the questions are ambiguous. He is condescending and loves to make you feel stupid. He counts off for stupid stuff and doesn't even try to understand what you're saying.

Didn't enjoy this professor. If you ask for help, his desire that you use PERFECT syntax (even if he knows what you're asking) exhausts you to the point that by the time you've asked the question correctly you don't care about the answer anymore. I had to drop and go to another section because I learned nothing, and he didn't seem to care. No help.

Dr. Shriner is not someone to take Physics I from. He is not helpful, occasionally condescending, and loves to tell you you're wrong. He attitude towards teaching doesn't make anyone want to continue taking the class. The homework is excessive and quite a bit harder than any test or quiz material. It's easy material made excruciating.

If you focus on learning the material, you should be fine in this class. Shriner grades strictly, but it's so that you'll learn about the rigor and hard work necessary to become a competent physicist.

Very good teacher. He's difficult and you have to try, but you'll learn the material. He's very helpful and always welcomes questions, and covers the material thoroughly. Pay attention, read the book, and do the homework, you'll be fine.

Good teacher. Physics is a difficult subject, and Dr. Shriner teaches it well. Your grade will reflect the effort you put forth. If you don't study or attend class, don't expect to get a good grade. Also don't be afraid to ask questions. He may seem like he doesn't care, but he'll help you when you need it.

All physics labs are poorly designed as far as grades go. The labs are easy, only because the TA's grade them...if you miss any pts it makes it much harder when u get to the final, they give you an hour to do the best on 2 different random labs, that would each normaly take 6 hrs total...so you have to get nearly perfect to even think about an A!

took him for calc based physics1. Constant hw, clicker questions every class, tests are very hard. Went to office for help...I wouldn't call it help at all...he was useless. Very specific about what answers hes looking for. questions not clear. barely any partial credit. material makes sense but NOT intuitive...so its very hard to grasp. AVOID HIM

First off, Dr. Shriner is a good teacher. He's very thorough and makes sure he covers concepts, not just blindly applying formulas. His additional questional on MasteringPhysics are usually more difficult than the book questions, by far! But you learn from them. Expects you to read the book. My only complaint is the constant clicker questions.

I didn't enjoy PHYS II lab. The first half is fairly simple, but you have to completely memorize the last five labs to even get a C for the finals. EXTREMELY DIFFICULT FINAL (av.45) even if you are a P or EE major. Do not attempt to argue against Shriner. I have heard terrible things happen if you piss him off. Get a good group + study hard =>A

Shriner.. he speaks well, writes well, teaches from his powerpoint. Visit his page to get an idea of what he is like. He grades like a tight wad, and seems to get joy when everyone misses a CPS question. The homework for this class in general is tough (mastering physics). The material is tough. Shriner just takes it to the next nevel with exactism.
