I really liked the professor and wish I was able to have him in person. Im not a good test taker and when stockton ended classes early, he discontinued the class. I didn't get the opportunity I would had to bring my grade up with the rest of the essays, pop quizzes, and final exam that could have helped my grade.

There are no powerpoints, videos, or any help reinforcing material in class on the material read for homework. Quizzes where he only wants one answer and if it is not that, you are wrong. Embarrasses you if you are wrong. No instruction on the essays or assignments and does not help you at all. Highly recommend not taking any classes with him!

Having Professor Devine as my teacher was like having a guest speaker everyday in class. He has traveled the world and he knows so much, but he also cares even more about the very weight of the history we were learning. The books we read in class were amazing, and he gave great feedback on any assignments we had involving the readings.

If you need to use the restroom DO NOT GO! This professor will make fun of you in front of the whole class. Other than that he is a great professor. He is passionate about his subject. If you are taking this class be prepared to work for a good grade because it is not an easy class.

Extremely intelligent, however can tend to be intimidating. Idk if it's because it's an intro course, but he expects you to remember material from high school history assuming it was easy. Hard to participate when you're scared of getting an answer wrong b/c he WILL let you know when you are incorrect. Keep up with readings/study and you'll pass.

Honestly, he isn't bad. Only two short analytical papers, one 1/2 online 1/2 in class midterm, and one final. The second half of the class turns into a lot of reading but if you can get through skimming the books but still understanding the general concepts you'll be totally fine. He's quick to call out different students for answers!

Assigns short readings, but they are every night. Dont fall behind in the readings or he will make sure to ask you about it. Extremely knowledgeable on his subject and very passionate about it. He wont be shy to pick on students, but is just as willing to take a joke. If you read the book and pay attention in class there is no way you dont get an A

One of the more charismatic professors I have had so far, but he can be kind of rude at times. You need to be on your toes in this class. You need to make sure you know the material or he will definitely embarrass you in front of the class. Sometimes his instructions are very unclear. Not many chances to save your grade. Doesn't give extra credit.

I hated history during high school but Mr. Devine made it so much interesting. He will talk fast during class so make sure you have the notebook and pen close to you! If you read whatever he assigns, you'll end up with a good grade. He will make the multiple choice questions very tricky but will make the objective questions easy.

Jack Devine is one of those characters that will make you, intentionally I don't know, feel dumb. One time, I handed him a written paper when he wanted a typed paper; it was simple error in judgement and he called me out in front of the class just for that one mistake! Only take him as a last resort, for easy grades do not equal nice people.

If you like History and Art and are interested in the Mexican Culture, take this class! Prof Devine can be very tough and likes to be intimidation but he's a good guy and is extremely knowledgeable in the subject manner.

Professor Devine has an amazing facility with history, politics, and economics. His depth of knowledge is impressive, as is his passion for sharing his experience. He truly wants to expand the student's understand the world and chooses from a very diverse source of subject material and media to immerse his class in the subject. Enjoyed the class!

His reading assignments are not that bad but there are many, make sure you do them especially if you decide to be late to class. He's a tough grader in the aspect of not being completely clear on what answer he is specifically looking for when you have a paper. He's not a bad professor and he can be humorous but he could be more clear.

Attendance is mandatory and you have to do the reading or he'll pick on you. There's a midterm, final, and two papers but he's an easier grader than most of the other history professors. His papers are easy and don't require much outside research. Nice guy, easy class, but it doesn't prepare you for the upper levels.

Had him for 2 classes. He made very boring material very interesting. Reading assignments every night to prepare for midterm and final. 2 big research papers, but they weren't very bad. Gives a lot of time to work on the papers. He cancels class whenever it rains. I wish I could take more of his classes but I dont need anymore history classes.

I took Devine for Mexico since the revolution. He is a great professor who has so much knowledge on his subject. I found history so interesting for him, and I am NOT a history major, I am a nursing major. I would say if you have the opportunity to take him , then do. If you actually care about learning then you will do great and love this.

Devine is a really good HISTORY teacher. I am a History major and compared to other teachers at Stockton, I learned a lot from him. I HATE American History, and he actually made me interested in the Presidents. YOU HAVE TO READ or he will make fun of you. P.S. His laugh is HILARIOUS, say something stupid just to get it out of him
