Be aware: if you have ZERO music knowledge you will be screwed unless you give 110%. She gets very annoyed if you aren't understanding something/getting better instantly. Favors students who have a musical background or previous music knowledge.

Kathy is one of the most amazing professors! She can be very intense and upfront at the beginning, but once you get used to it, she is great! She really knows her material and will help you succeed in anyway possible. She cares about her students and wants them to show their best. Her classes are hard, but you'll leave knowing a lot.

i took some classes with kathy for a couple of semesters. she is a bit overwhelming & intense when you first get to know her, however she is very passionate about teaching students about music. she is a tough grader, but it really helps for when you transition to university. be prepared to study & work hard! always ask questions if you're confused!

Look, I'm not a music major and I took this class not really knowing full well what I was getting into so perhaps my opinion isn't as substantial as others. Though I do know music theory and I do know my way around the subject quite well. She wasn't that great. I think she labeled me as lower tier because I wasn't in any of her musical programs.

Kathy is the BEST teacher ever! I loved taking classes Fundamentals of Music, Music Theory I and II, and Chamber Choir from her. She loves what she teaches and wants you to succeed in music. Her classes are not blow off as they are crucial to your major. Show up, do the homework on time, understand the material, and get an A! Take her!

Kathy is a very passionate and eccentric professor. I took choir, aural skills, and theory with her. She's caring, but has no tolerance for excuses, valid or not. She'll work with you if you're struggling, but if she doesn't see punctuality and extra effort, no more. Just show respect and do your work. Don't get personal with her.

If you are into music and plan on taking it somewhere, then Kathy is a good teacher to have. She will definitely propel you forward. She challenges you so you can't slack in her class. Her tests are really tricky though. I liked all of her theory classes. She really knows her stuff. And she will help if you take advantage of her office hours!

Kathy is an extremely difficult professor, she expects her Fundamentals students to already have a pretty strong grasp on fairly advanced beginning concepts before class begins. She glares at students she dislikes or who ask too many questions. Hopefully no one in class pulls out a cell phone because then the whole class will have a pop quiz.

Kathy is wonderful. She is very personal and your class is family by the time you're done with the Theory and Aural Skills sequence. She expects you to work hard; if you do, she will like you. If you are lazy and goof off, she won't hide her annoyance. BE ON TIME, do your work, ask questions. Music is HARD but she wants you to succeed!

Kathy is one of the most disrespectful and rude teachers I have ever had. I would not recommend her class. If you not already really good at music, she will get mad at you. She has no patience when teaching students, and will often glare at students she dislikes. Choose another teacher for your music courses if possible.

She is knowledgeable in her subject area, but is too disorganized, and gets behind in class, and then gets mad at her students. She tends to not help students who she dislikes or who haven't had as much training. She will gossip about other professors and conductors even though her conducting isn't very good. She will speed up songs twice as fast.

Kathy knows her stuff, but is VERY disorganized, and completely unprofessional. She acts more like a college student than a college professor. However, if you know your stuff she will love you, and that will make the semester bearable. She's mostly bark and rarely bites. If you're a music major you're stuck with her, so make friends.

Kathy seems nice at first. She tries to help students, but she cries and gossips in class and is not professional. She makes me feel stupid if I ask a question, and she is rude to some students. I won't take her again. I'll go to another college to take my advanced classes. Run!

Kathy is a great teacher and is very passionate about the subject. She may seem a bit "coo-coo" but most music people are, at least a little bit. She doesn't tolerate stupid stuff and can get stressed at times but at least try in class and you'll be on her good side. She will help you when you need it, as much as you need it. Great teacher!

The reviews below weren't lying! This lady is very passionate about her stuff, but she can come across as borderline coo-coo! She is VERY disorganized and does not follow the book at all...tends to get ahead a lot and forgets that not all of us are music majors when teaching.She does tend to correct you in a way that will make you feel stupid.

Kathy is the most wonderful professor I have had the pleasure to learn from. She knows the material, and earnestly wants her students to know it as intricately as her. Yes, some of the material is difficult; but if someone doesn't understand, it is usually their own fault for never paying attention in class, or coming late or not at all. BEST PROF!

Kathy knows it all but is disorganized in presenting the material. Syllabus is loosely followed. Few graded assignments. Her handwritten tests are hard to read. Grades are subjective. Study/practice and you'll learn the subject. If you're a music major, you'll have her for 4 (or more) mandatory classes, so get on her good side.

She's very understanding, but can get really stressed out especially when we don't know our music. I pretty much always knew my part, so my word to all of you is-- the secret to this class (and all of her choirs)is be prepared!
