Going to class is one of the most important things, there was a ton of reading, but attendance is what led a lot of people to failing. The lectures are not helpful at all, I would just bring the book and read it while she talked, which worked great for me.

Dr. Shonk is a tough grader though she provides clear lectures covering the material. The interesting and informative lectures provide more than adequate preparation for the exams. Though she is a tough grader, you will learn a lot. She is underrated and under appreciated.

Worst class I've taken at Brockport. Shonk was rude and a bad teacher. Material we learned did not prepare us at all for tests, which are extremely difficult. Teaching Assistant Gabby Clark taught us more than Shonk herself. Department head ended up taking the class over because the average was a D-. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS

This was the worst class I have ever taken in all of my college years. Shonk was absent 14 times during the semester, yet expected us to know everything. She told us we were boring when we didn't answer her questions. Her exams are ridiculously hard. When you email her, she replies with paragraphs basically degrading you. Avoid this course!!

Worst class ever.Professor missed abut 14 classes, and expected us to have a solid attendance. She was hard to understand, and would tell the class "you guys are boring me" if we did not answer a question within 3 seconds. She was disorganized, boring, and her topics con correlation took an 1hr to explain. ugh worst teacher DONT TAKE IT with Shonk.

THIS TEACHER IS AWFUL. Has been absent 8 times this semester, and sends in her god awful TA to cover class. We barely went over 2 of the chapters that we are now being tested on this week after she was absent for a whole week of class. She is terribly rude in her emails she sends between 1-4am.. tenure? She should be re-evaluated... just saying.

DO NOT EVER TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HER!!!! Probably the worst teacher I have ever had! She expects way too much out of her students, and thinks it's the only class we take. She is very unorganized and her power points are way to pointless. The tests have information that she has never talked about or the book mentioned. Take with another teacher!

Very smart lady, her class is easy if you go to the lecture and put in the effort. Her ability to relate the material to stories is useful and helped me remember on tests. Very caring and will work with you to improve your grade. Holds review classes and will see you in office hours.

Might actually be the worst teacher I've ever had. Her powerpoints are overloaded with information and they make you want to drive a nail into your head. She also struggles to communicate through emails and is immensely disorganized. Do yourself a favor and do not take this class with her. Worst decision of my Brockport career.

Worst teacher I have ever had. She gives way too much work and does not teach, but rather tells her own stories. Lectures are boring and too much info for one class. Our first test had 400 slides of notes, no exaggeration.

Professor shonk is extremely knowledgeable in her field and has many life experiences she uses those experiences in her lectures in order to bring light to the pages of the text.I learned so much from her. Read,do extra credit quizzes,attend class and you will be prepared for exams, still in question ? she holds review sessions,you'll earn an A

I don't know what all the negativity is about, but I thought Dr. Shonk was an outstanding professor. Basically she tells you right from the beginning of what's expected. Go to the review sessions she offers, email her if you have questions, do the assigned readings/E.C., and show up to class. It's that simple. This is college people, not daycare.

Dr Shonk is passionate and knowledgeable in her field, she is not however there to deliver an easy A. You will need to earn it, read and do all the extra and required work and you will complete the course with applicable knowledge of the subject. I would recommend this course to psychology majors or anyone whose major subjects them to children.

Dr. Shonk was a very great professor. I learned the most from her class than I ever did in any class at school. Her tests are difficult if you don't study, but just study and you'll do fine. She gives out a lot of extra credit which helps your overall grade a lot.

Her lecture is extremely boring and there is a lot of work. However, as long as you do the extra credit quiz assignments and extra credit video assignments, you'll be fine. The extra credit gives you almost 10 points bonus on each test. For this class, the text book will become your best friend. The tests are all from the text book and quizzes.

Worst teacher I've ever had in my life. She relates everything from class to her unimpressive personal stories, thinks she is "hip" while swearing during lectures, always has an excuse for changing the syllabus... which she did at least 5 times during the course. I will NEVER take a class with her again.
