She can be lecture heavy in first and second year courses, wanting to teach her students how to discuss the texts, which comes in handy in upper year seminars. There is no other prof that will put so much time and energy into her students. If you are passionate, open and want to learn, you will do well and get so much out of her classes.

Dr. Spearey is a phenomenal professor. She really cares about her students, their wellbeing, and their success, and she's also extremely passionate/knowledgable about the material she teaches. However, her lecturing is too fast, she doesn't post her slides, and you have to read A LOT and participate every week to get a good mark. Still, great lady

Honestly, would not have passed this class without my TA. Thanks Shannon. Spearey is such a dry prof, who makes no sense 90 percent of the time. The readings were interesting and so were the seminars, but lectures are not worth it. She doesn't sway from the 200+ slides she has prepped for the lecture and will make you want to nap after. Good luck.

Lectures are painful to get through, genuinely. And I essay topics are a joke. Dont take this course if you enjoy reading and like English, it will ruin it for you.

Must do the readings every week to understand lectures. Readings are interesting but the Lectures can go on and on and get really boring. Profressor really likes to talk a lot. Though she is good at engaging the audience through class discussions. She doesn't post any of her powerpoint slides online and she is quick through the slides in class.

A lovely professor. Rather uninteresting subject matter, but she engages her students well. I would not recommend taking ENGL1F95, not because of her, but because of how boring the subject matter is. Easy to get a good mark, so for non-English majors this is for you, but if you are serious about literature, avoid this course.

She can be a bit of a talker but Susan is honestly one of the most passionate professors I've ever had at brock. she is so understanding and caring, and although you definitely have to read in her classes, I found her to be a really easy marker

Taking a class with Professor Spearey was like a breath of fresh air. She actually enjoys the material she lectures on and it's evident in her classes. She was really easy to talk to and was a very fair marker. If you do something well, she will praise you instead of just focusing on the negative. I would definitely recommend one of her classes!

Professor Spearey is great! I can see how her lectures would be hard to follow without power point slides, but who she used them it was easy follow and take notes. I loved the course material, especially the poems. She's very passionate and nice. The exam wasn't hard if you took good notes and went to class. overall it was great class!

I came here specifically to rate Spearey. She is one of the BEST profs I have ever had. She is a rare prof who is invested in her students' learning. Her classes are student directed and incredibly thought provoking. She is approachable and willing to spend as much time as possible providing guidance. Amazing woman and exceptional teacher.

In my opinion, Spearey is not a good professor. She only speaks to the front section of the class and is not clear. Reading choices are okay, but the marking is much too hard for a first year class.

For a non english major this course was extremely difficult as i was not taught how to write a "university english paper" because they were way different in high school! We were just expected to know! rambles on in lecture and not all the poems or readings get covered. I had a very frustrating time in this course.
