first teacher to make me create an account, that is a feat. Extremely unprepared for this class, he even admitted it. Hasn't had a clear grading policy and hasn't updated our cumulative grades to us once. Lectures confuse people more than the book, assigns a ridiculous amount of work and rarely replies to emails. You will regret taking this class.

He is the worst teacher I've ever had. I am a straight A student and I had to drop out of this class. I worked for 3 hours almost every day on homework and got a 55% on the first exam. The tests only get harder from there. His lectures ran long most days so don't plan on taking a class back to back with this one. Half of your class will drop.

More than half of the class dropped out and had failing grades. His lectures are very long and wordy, so expect to learn the material strictly from the textbook. While he is nice and willing to help, he is a very difficult teacher, and his explanations make things more confusing. This was by far the hardest class I've taken yet.

very difficult instructor to follow, he was ALWYAS willing to spend time out of class but even then it was difficult to understand the material, he isn't consistent with due dates but he really does try to be flexible. his tests are difficult but he offers great feedback and is willing to go over it with you. overall a difficult but helpful instruc

Didn't test over material taught. Class average of 50% (high 61). Refused to acknowledge any problem. Got As on homework/succeeded in class, asked what to do differently for tests - he said to do more practice problems (which weren't tested over). Didn't keep his word with grading when a lab partner disappeared. Very frustrating for good students.

Doug is a nice man, and very willing to spend time with students going over material. However, he is one of the hardest professors I have had throughout my college career. DO NOT take him if you are just taking this class for the grade! Frustrating and discouraging class!

This is not an easy class no matter who you take it with, but Doug works his tail off to make sure you learn and do well. He drops an exam, and only takes the top few scores for a lot of homework and labs at the end of the quarter. If you want to do well, work hard! Go see him in office hours and show that you're trying, it pays off.

Dropped this class 6 or 7 weeks in. Waste of 200+ hours on homework. Everything done in class is USELESS minus the labs, and even then he will most likely give everyone in the class a failing grade for those. I was a solid A at first, going worse and worse as time went on. Unfair grader, useless teaching, and too much work. Only take pass/fail.

Waaay to much work: textbook work due two times a week, internet homework once a week, labs every monday and wednesday, reports every week, group problems every few days, quizzes every week, etc. Only take this class if you have nothing else to do for the quarter. Other than that, Brown is nice, although sometimes confusing in his explanations.

Very enthusiastic teacher. His lectures were very thurough and easy to follow. There was alot of homework, but it made the tests and quizzes easy. He is also a pretty fair grader. I wish he tought engineering physics!

LOTS of homework and internet homework, even though this wasnt an online class... I dont like how only 40% of the grade is based on exams and the final, rest is homework/labs/group problems/in-class activites. Attendance is pretty mandatory if you want an A. If you want an A, you'd read the section before he lectures on it or else you will be lost

Physics is a difficult subject & there is alot of information to cover; the fact that the material is tough doesn't mean that the teacher is to blame. In fact, Prof. Brown is always available to help students. He's passionate about teaching, and does everything he can to help students maximize their learning and achieve a good grade.

While I agree that some of the algebra is difficult to keep pace with I found the class to be worth the while. There are a lot of points, and extra credit and professor brown is always available for help. I wouldn't shy away from his course. Just know there is a high work load. But he is very fair and understanding with grading. I recommend him.

Very nice guy, but impossible to keep up with his algebra while he is solving problems. I found it more usefull to stop taking notes in class and just read the book.

Brown is one of those teachers you really, really want to avoid. I have never had any where close to this much homework from all angles, and he emails more homework over the weekend! During lecture he enters his own world and rapidly solves complicated problems, then states that the basics are in the solution. Just take another prof for physics.

This class is more like advanced studies then intro to astronomy. The lectures were so monotonous.. and he moves so quickly over so much material it's really frustrating. I took one exam after spending every class period in the library studying the text, and did better then when I attended class. Don't take this class.

He definitely knows a lot, but that can be more hurtful than helpful. If you are interested in learning about stars, don't take this class. You can tell that he is primarily a physics teacher, and everything seems much more complex then it should be. His lectures consist of reading slides, not much interactive learning. hardest class at bcc so far

Doug Brown is a highly intelligent individual with a clear wealth of knowledge in many different areas. However do not be lulled into thinking an Astronomy class taught by him will be easy by any means. He is VERY difficult. You will be expected to comprehend an astronomical (pun intended) array of information. You will have to do a lottt of work
