Comment:
Professor Russ is such a caring professor. His lectures can be a bit boring and there are no PowerPoints to take notes from, so be sure to pay a lot of attention during lectures. The exams are 4 short answer questions and one essay, but not difficult at all. He is a solid choice for HIST106 if you're looking to fulfill a breadth requirement.

Dr. Russ is the BEST professor I have had at UD, have already signed up for another one of his classes. Reading required texts will be helpful, but are not necessary to receiving a passing grade. Lectures are incredibly fascinating and entertaining. He's been quoted by WSJ for a piece about DE history for good reason. A charismatic genius!

Definitely the best lecturer I've had. He's prepared, full of cool facts, and is there for students. The assassins course has a midterm and final, but they're easy to prepare for, and then there's a 10 page paper that is actually fun to do because the possible topics you might come up with are always interesting. Using Audible for the books helps.

One of the best professors ever-- you have to show up to class to get the notes, but otherwise there is no extra work other than exam prep and writing one essay, which he graded very fairly. He is so interesting and always drops super cool facts so attending class really wasn't a hassle.

Overall, Russ is a very good lecturer. It can sometimes get a little dry and is difficult to draw connections to the overall theme of the class, but he's an interesting guy. For the three papers there wasn't much guidance but he graded really easily.

I'm not a huge fan of history but, Dr. Russ is the BEST professor I've had at UD. The class is super laid back. The tests are easy and straight forward. As long as you go to class, read the book, and take notes an A is easily achievable. He also genuinely cares about the success of his students so don't be afraid to ask him for help.

he's super-duper smart and really passionate about teaching and the material so that makes the class way more enjoyable. the material isn't super boring like a normal history class but the only grades are a midterm, final, and a 10-page essay so if you like having many different grading opportunities this is the class for you

Prof Russ is the man, he's one of the most interesting teachers I've had at UD thus far. He is very passionate, knowledgeable, and easy to talk to. He is not the clearest on his assignment/ grading criteria but if you put in the effort to the assignment you will get a good grade. Take him! You won't regret it!

Dr. Russ is probably one of my favorite professors I've had at UD. His lectures incorporate the main points of the class with small asides about his life as a historian. The main part of your grade comes from a 10+ page paper, but if you pick a good topic it isn't hard. I'm not a History major but if I was I would take more classes with Dr. Russ.

I loved this class! Dr. Russ' lectures are fascinating and truly hold an individual's attention. This is a unique course compared to others in the department and I highly recommend taking it. He is easily accessible outside of class if you need him and really cares about his students. Course had a midterm, final, and 10 page paper. Great professor!

Dr. Russ is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about history. Lectures consist only of him talking (no powerpoint) but were interesting and engaging. There were 3 exams that were 4 short answers and 1 essay, so you have to really know the material. That being said, if you take good notes and read the book, you can do well. Highly recommend!

Dr. Russ is the BEST. I don't particularly like history or care about the History of Delaware for that matter but he makes it interesting, like telling a story. Only two exams and a paper. Very relaxed class and also my favorite I've ever taken. Very manageable while taking other time consuming courses like organic chemistry.

He is an amazing lecturer! I never skipped because the class goes by so fast. It's important to take good notes because he doesn't use any slideshows. Just study your notes and find some key points in the textbook and you'll be fine (only 3 exams).

Dr. Russ is to date the best professor at UD. He is a great lecturer and genuinely hilarious person. He only has 3 tests, none are Comprehensive. Attending class is a must though because he doesn't use any lecture materials or website. His word is what notes are taken on. His pace is fine and he makes the material interesting enough to remember.

I loved every single class with Dr. Russ. He is a very engaging speaker so lectures seemed to go fast. Grade consisted of 3 papers, all on broad topics allowing us to research and write about things we liked. He genuinely cared about his students, talked to us like we're people, never kept us the full 75 minutes. Take his class, you'll love him!

You can tell he has read nearly everything with regard American history and presents material in a storybook-like manner. Teaches Delaware History in an insightful way with a clear enthusiasm for the state. 2 exams and 1 term paper. Awesome.
