My least favorite class I have taken at UD. I was so excited because I love history and rock and roll, but this class was unbearable! I made it to the first few weeks of class before discovering that the lectures had nothing to do with the tests (120 questions). You have to do well on the tests because there are no other grades!!! Do not take!!

Literally sits in front of class and reads the textbook, without a textbook. Hated this class, but I was impressed at how he remembered the whole textbook throughout his miserable hour and fifteen minute lectures. Monotone, goes off topic, really bad class. DO NOT TAKE.

Hamant is a very interesting guy, and if you're passionate about rock and roll, you will probably enjoy this class. Tests are at the testing center, which is a pain, and he can be unclear as to what is going to be on the tests. Luckily though, all tests are massively curved, so it's hard to fail this class. Study, take notes, and you'll be fine.

Do not take History of Rock and Roll. Yeah, it sounds like a dope class, but this dude sucks. You will fall asleep in the Lectures and no matter what or how much you study, the tests will still be a foreign language. Everyone fails the tests so bad he curves 15 points on almost every exam. Just save yourself the struggle and dont take it.

I rarely write bad reviews on here but I don't want to lie to anybody. This guy sucks. Makes absolutely no mentions of exams at any given time. Does not help you prepare or guide you as to what you should study. Hard to discern what to take notes on, but it might as well be everything because anything the guy says in lecture seems to be fair game.

lectures are basically just him taking about music, only covers about 50% of test material, he does not even mention exams during lecture because he doesn't even know what is on them. curves a lot and tests are taken at the testing center which is a pain to get to. there are much easier history breadths to take.

Alan really enjoys music and his stories are weird and funny but his lectures do nothing to prepare you for the exam. I guess on almost every question. Ive never gotten higher than a 75 on a test but there is always at least a ten point curve. And going to the testing center is such a pain. Alan is such a character but its really not worth it.

Honestly this class isn't as bad as everyone at UD says it is. I put in the bare minimum amount of effort and barely went to class, and I'm going to get a B/B+. Use quizlets to study because only some of the information he lectures about will show up on the test considering he doesn't even make it. Exams were curved 10-20 points each

If you don't like music, I don't recommend this class. I came in with a pretty strong background, so it wasn't as bad as many say. Don't buy the textbook; the exams are only on lecture (so write EVERYTHING down). Tests are curved 10-15 points AT LEAST on every exam. Also, have a friend with a car bc the exams are at the testing center.

No textbook, no assignments, 4 tests. Tests are about 100 questions each, completely based on lecture. My advice, record the lecture and save them to study from because even the most random detail will be on the test. At the same time, I walked out of the test averaging a C all year and ended with an A because of HUGE curves

Exams are all based of the lecture (don't buy the book) and are curved a RIDICULOUS amount. Exams are at the testing center, which is annoying. Also there are concert reports (very easy). Look on the music departments webpage or check out mainstreet ($). Lectures are SUPER boring at points and half the time it won't seem related to rock at all.

It's an ok class for someone who isn't big into R&R. I took it as a breath, definitely low effort. Curves EVERY. ONE. OF. HIS. EXAMS by 10+ points. He goes super fast, and everything he says is on the test (but there are some things that isn't covered that still is). Use the online resources and STUDY THE MUSIC EXAMPLES. Needs a course capture

Class is interesting after first month. I would not recommend for anyone who does not have a car on campus. All tests are taken in testing center near acme. I ubered to every one. You must also attend 2 concerts which can cost money and it's annoying. Tests are 100 questions online including listening portions. Do not take for breadth!

Very interesting, makes you take notes on everything he says. Curves the H-E-double hockey stick, out of his exams.

This class is all based off lecture where Hamant just spews out information with his eyes closed for an hour and 15 minutes. If you wanna pass, you have to go to class and take notes, he doesn't use any kind of visuals while presenting, which makes it hard for you to get all the information down

Hamant is a great professor. He's funny & tells interesting stories. Don't need the book. No quizzes. There's 4 exams (which he always curves), & 2 concert reports. Go to class. He rambles sometimes. First few classes can be a little boring, but the rest are great. I always wanted to go to class. His lectures are very interesting.

Pretty good prof and doesn't take attendance. Closes his eyes when he speaks and shows a lot of videos. Class is boring at first until you start to recognize the artists and songs you're learning about. You should definitely read the chapters assigned. Tests are a little unfair in my opinion but its easy to get in the 80s without studying too hard.

I sat in the front row and I really hit it off with Alan. Fantastic musician and really knows his stuff. It felt like I was just listening to a legend. If you love music but didn't major in it, this class is fantastic.

Not a music lover, only took for credit. Lecture is long and boring. Class is not too hard, just put in time memorizing all the facts. Test are tough only because a lot of material is on it which isn't mentioned in class. Memorize names of band members. Textbook was not used once. No homework. Two papers which are concert reviews.
