Class could seem boring, but he tries to make it fun. There are three books needed and one paper. Midterm was only 35 questions, so no wiggle room to mess up. Final was 50 questions. Honestly, if you did the reading and paid attention to lectures, the tests are super easy. They're ridiculously easy and to the point. Take lots of notes!

He reminds me of Jeb! Bush, in both his physical appearance and speech patterns, but don't let it fool you. Carlson is a very insightful and understanding professor. As someone who is often absent is was a great comfort to me that he was willing to accept absence as long as I talked to him first.

Professor Carlson wasn't too bad. His lectures were a bit bland, he could use a little more enthusiasm. We had to write a 1-2 page "reading response" once a week in regards to the material that we read. Lots of reading. Lots. But overall, generally easy.

Good professor. Graded on three essays, weekly quizzes, mid-term, and final. Offered extra credit. Very understanding of any reasons why missing class was necessary. There was a lot of reading assigned for homework but honestly I barely read anything, was still able to participate in class discussions and pass the class based on his lectures alone.

Great professor. Took for a Capstone requirement. You are graded on essays, the mid-term, final, and embedded questions that are given randomly and also reflect attendance.

Very knowledgable about his subjects and gives a lot of insight in the reading we do. He has interesting and engaging lectures and classes are usually very fun! Great professor but if you're not into reading or not very good at writing, consider another instructor.

Professor Carlson is a great professor. Yes there's a lot to read, but this is college. It's really not that difficult. He seems like a very nice and intelligent person and he's not boring at all, in my opinion. I had him in the fall quarter a couple quarters ago and I genuinely enjoyed his class and would gladly take him again.

If you want to take a class where the instructor discusses how the future is going to be taken over by robots, that is your choice but there are much better professors for this class. Boring, boring, boring.

This is an easy class. Hard to fail if you put in effort. The topic is interesting; sit in the front. Didn't attend all the classes or did all the reading. Got Bs on the 2 exams. A debate will provide extra credit, and one paper is required. Its not hard, just make sure you understand the prompt. I didn't ask questions and got a C.

Make sure you read ahead. Don't take this if you don't have time for reading. The material you read correlates exactly with the slides and blackboard discussions. You will miss out on explanations of the stories if you do not attend class. You will need to write one paper. He's a bit tough on grading so be aware you can't take it lightly.

You read a different book every single week. If you don't read the books, you will be SOL for the final, and the two essays he assigns. Once you chime in on a question, he will hound you for what else he wants to hear so make sure you actually read the materials and not just skim through. Dull material unless you're into that kind of thing.

He has two exams the midterm and the final. For the midterm I did non of the reading but attend lectures and ended up failing the exam. For the final I read and got a B on the exam. Reading all the material makes a huge difference. It helps to also do the discussion questions he puts on BB. He also has a paper due and is kind of tough grader

The class was tough, there was way too much reading, provided no study guides for final or midterm, tests looked like a different language at times, professor sets class up for failure.

Carlson chooses great texts, but there's A LOT of reading for every class. His handwriting is deplorable, so listen up to take notes - which you need to take A LOT of (final study guide had nearly 70 terms to memorize). Dry sense of humor and incredibly smart, but can be a little highbrow. I'm an A student and got a B+ by the skin of my teeth.

I took this professor for a humanities capstone. Big mistake! I had to read hundreds of pages. He expects about 50--80 pages of reading before every class, and that was 3x's a week. If you don't do the reading, you won't pass his extremely detailed tests. I have a full time job and 4 other classes. Worst class ever, and I'm graduating this june!

With me having a full-time job and being a full-time student, this class was a HUGE mistake to take. When I took this class, I didn't realize it was going to be about cyborgs and robots or else I would have taken a different class. There is a TON of reading to do, so unless you don't have anything else to do, avoid this class.

He makes the class interesting and if you do the readings(it's a lot!) and attend class you'll get a good grade. You don't have to take extensive notes, just know the basic info. You have to write a short essay but it isn't to bad. Main things: READ and LISTEN TO HIM IN CLASS!

Mr. Carlson is a good professor. I went into his class expecting to be bored, however the readings were interesting and good novels/short stories. THIS CLASS REQUIRES A LOT OF READINGS!He gives embedded questions every other class. Funny, the final was actually easier than the mid term. I passed with a A-.
