Weekly quizzes, provides vocab words to study the week prior though. Gives study guides for every test with the exact essay questions that will appear on the test. 3 tests, weekly quizzes, and 2 papers. Grades extremely fair but can be quite boring.

Professor Nolan is one of my favorite professors that I've had. Don't get me wrong: his class is far from easy. You have to listen in class and at the very least check out the guide that goes along with the book. He can be a little intimidating for questions, but he is much better one-on-one explaining things. Overall, great professor.

This is a hard class, but at the end if you went to class he bumped your grade up a whole letter grade! You don't need the book, just the Primer & Guide. His tests come from about 70% book, and 30% lecture. Just pay attention and you'll do fine.

Avoid this course at all costs! The average grade in the class is about 70%. Tests are ridiculously hard because he puts "all of the above" and "none of the above". He made a class that SHOULD be easy, extremely difficult. This is because HE WROTE THE BOOK. If that doesn't scare you away, I don't know what will. And his lectures are SO boring.

The material for the class is ridiculously difficult. Most of the class averages on the test was around 65-75%. He is very boring and his lectures are horrible.

Very Enthusiastic. Some of the movies are a little weird. No tests, only short logs on each film and a final paper. Its easy to get behind on the logs because he doesnt give due dates, but he grades them very leniently. Would definitely recommend him if you need a social science

Nolan is the man. He gives good extra credit and is lenient on his grading. He curves tests and sends around a sign in sheet.

I really don't care about sociology, so this class was bad for me from the start. The exams are really hard because you never really know what he's trying to say, since he says so much. When confronted during office hours. he is quiet and awkward. Honestly, don't take this class if you have no interest in sociology. He loves saying good morning.

Very nice guy who is extremely aware of what he is talking about. I took this as a summer class. It was a lot of reading but I was able to manage just fine. The class can be very dry and prepare to be there the whole time. If you participate in the lecture it will go by faster. I learned a lot in the class! I am glad I took it!

He is very smart and knows what he is talking about. However, his class does not cover the sociology that you hear about. No interesting things about relationships, crime rates, north vs. south topics or interesting things like that. Only take him if you think learning the sociology of ancient indian tribes vs. other obscure cultures.

Dr. Nolan is a great guy and really loves what he is teaching. However, his class in VERY boring. He wrote the books that are hard to understand and comprehend. His tests are a little tricky because of "all of the above", "none of the above" multiple choice questions. Take good notes and read the Study Guide Book. and do ALL of the extra credit!

Definately read his book and go to class. There are pop-quizzes and the things he says in class will ALWAYS be on the test. The test are much more diffucult because most of what is on the test is what he says in class so when taking notes, write down everything he says! Other than that, he is a great professor who really loves teaching

Easy teacher, I am a sociology major and did not find his classinteresting. Attendance is not mandatory but you still go for pop up quizzes that are extremely easy. The only thing I hated about class was that he pushes his views on you a lot, make sure you have a mind of your own and don't beleive everything he tells you. still take him, easy A

Prof. Nolan really isn't a bad professor. He makes the subject interesting. The pop quizzes are easy but the tests are a little harder, but buy and use the Primer and Guide for the class and you should be set. Very helpful. Go to class for the pop quizzes. Writing assignments are fairly easy. Do extra credit and study hard. Very approachable
