He doesn't understand how to use technology and often spends a chunk of class time trying to get his computer to work. Also, he cancels class a lot or lets the class out early. He is a genius and has a very broad vocabulary which can sometimes make it hard to understand him. It is very easy to get by in this class by doing minimal work.

This is my second time having him as a professor but with the Film History class and the only difference with this class and Film 1800 is that he grades slightly harder and asks more obscure questions on quizzes. He's always open to student's feedback about quizzes or projects, and he's always great to have a casual conversation with about films.

Please give him a chance- even though he may not be used to using the technology portion of the class, if you truly apply yourself you'll learn a lot about film. He's a brilliant and funny guy. A walking encyclopedia of film knowledge. Put in an effort and he'll love you!

Stowers is a person who knows about the topic of Film studies and you could probably have a really good conversation about it over lunch but not during a lecture. He likes to ramble on and I never really learned a lot of concrete things from his lectures. His tests are sometimes unreasonable but you can easily debate yourself some points back.

Sam rambles and can be confusing and sometimes I get secondhand embarrassment for him, but he's great once you find his genius, like someone said. I did this class as honors by contract, so I got to know him even better, and he really is brilliant and very knowledgeable about film. Be patient and watch the films, and you'll get a good grade.

Professor Stowers is a great, and he likes what he does. Although he speaks with his eyes closed and can be unorganized, he will help you. Give him a chance early on when it seems like the class is going nowhere. As long as you show that you care, you will do great and learn a lot. He has lots of knowledge and he also lets out class early a lot.

One of my favorite professors at Mizzou. First couple weeks i thought he was crazy because he doesn't talk with his eyes open, and is kinda all over the place. He lets you redo papers until you get the grade you want. Once you realize how genius he is you will find him fascinating

He is one of the better English teachers at Mizzou. He is very nice, smart, and understanding. Sometimes you will learn more by his conferences than in class. I wasn't a good writer in high school but because of him I am better. Take his English class because he is helpful and not too strenuous like some of the others.

At first I thought he was a little strange and a lot of my classmates made fun of him because he's a little scattered. But I can honestly say that he is probably the smartest man I know and I really admire him. My writing improved so much because of his conferences. Give him a chance!

The things we had to write about were really boring. Focused on the 1950's for the entire semester. Stowers is a good guy but a little scattered. He's late to class as often as he's on time. I had no idea what my grade was until the last two weeks of the semester as he never posted grades. On the plus side there are no test.

Stowers is an incredibly wise and well-versed man. Don't let his intimidating height or closed eyes scare you away. He is so helpful and understanding if you go to him. He also has an encyclopedic knowledge of the material and will clear up any discrepancies. TAKE THIS MAN'S CLASS!

May seem a bit odd during the first weeks of class, but give him a chance! He knows a lot about what he teachers and can be very helpful if you use his resources and pay attention. I learned a lot in the class whether it was related to English or not. Also very easy going about due dates.

I really enjoyed taking his class last spring. His conferences really helped me to become a better writer. He does criticize high school teacher a lot during his course and has a problem with keeping his eyes open when he talks, but he's interesting in his students succeeding. Great class!

He can be hard to follow in class (boring, unorganized, ect.) If you pay attention, though, you will have no problem in the class, he goes through all tests and essays before you even take them

He is the worst professor I have ever had. He talked with his eyes closed, which I find rude. Also, he fails to explain the material but expects students to understand it. He seems to talk just to hear himself talk. Don't email him, because it takes him too long to respond and it VERY rude in his responses as if you are taking up his precious time.

He knows what he is talking about. Sometimes he goes on tangents but overall he is interesting. The readings are kinda boring but he is a good teacher, its almost like being in a book club. You read the material and then talk about it. He is not a hard grader and very approachable. He is kinda wimisical

not the most organized guy in the world but it works out cause he doesn't really expect you to be either, nice and helpful, does conferences so at least you know what you did wrong so you can fix it.
