McCoy is a great professor, especially with covid he is very understanding and made things feel less stressful. You do read a lot but they are interesting books. You do have to write papers on the books but he gives a lot of information/context within his lectures. 10/10 would take another class with him again.

Professor McCoy has a very laidback style when it comes to seminars and classes with a discursive format. He's invariably respectful of his students' views and seems genuinely interested in what they have to say. His anecdotes are sometimes pretty funny, too.

Professor McCoy is a tough grader on papers, but less so on tests, and his test questions come right out of his lectures, so if you've been taking good notes you shouldn't have any problems. You definitely have to keep up with readings if you expect to do well.

He's more interested in hearing what you think about something, than telling you what you should think. He's a fair-tough grader. Also he has a great voice which makes lectures interesting.

Lectures were interesting, he is always willing to help, he is very kind and accommodating. He kind of looks like Santa Claus. You should read the material but it is not always necessary as he often covers the gist in lectures. His class was pretty easy and I would definitely take another class with him again.

As a whole, professor McCoy is great! For the time I had him, his lectures, although confusing at times, were always interesting. With that said, you really need to pay attention and do the readings, as he gives weeklybi-weekly quizzes based on the readings. While the class won't be an easy A, it is nonetheless interesting for history lovers!

McCoy's so great. He's so mellow and it's so obviously enjoys teaching and talking about history with interested students (in seminars). he's so relaxed and nice, he really puts you to ease. He has a lot of respect for student viewpoint. There's a lot of reading, but it's a history class, so you should expect that anyway.

Probably one of the best professors in the History Department. This guy really knows what he is talking about. He has a really passion and knowledge of the source material that is nothing if not infectious. I highly recommend his history through the novel class. But don't take the class if you hate reading a lot per week.

Prof McCoy is probably my favorite teacher of all time. Cares a lot about the student's well-being (he's also an extremely helpful faculty adviser). Very intelligent man, his lectures are interesting, and he has a great sense of humor. Take a class with McCoy if you love American history, you won't regret it.

I loved history thru novel. If you enjoy the class or not really depends on if you like history. There's a lot of reading, three papers, and a mid-term. it's not that hard of a class. you'll get an A if you put in the effort.

The books weren't bad and the content was easy enough to remember from High School. His interest in the material makes it more than tolerable but can be repetative and always holds the class 10 minutes late

Professor McCoy is an excellent lecturer and discussion leader. His Early American Republic class was stimulating and very engaging. The reading load was heavy, but very interesting and well chosen. Take a history class with him.
