Comment:
Course is fairly easy relative to other EECS courses, does require a lot of practice if you are not experienced with java programming. Lots of labs, assignments and exams but plenty of extensions were given and the overall difficulty wasn't too high, and got easier as the course went on. Lectures weren't the best but he was open to helping students

Very good professor. Not the best lecturer but the posted slides and other material were pretty good and covered everything. Tests and exams weren't too bad, mostly easy. Grading criteria was usually clear. Was easy to contact and arrange accommodations with.

I took his class in summer 2020, His Lecture are quite hard to understand , but if you follow the textbook and enough attention in class , can easily pass the course . well , The course was pretty interesting but the prof wasn't.

Lectures are useless because his explanation is not clear enough and you are on your own. The labs and lectures are unrelated to the tests. My third test is in two days and he haven't announced our test 2 results yet after about a month, so we know our situation and what to aim for third test. Try to avoid him.

I am a student with 5.8 GPA, average-ish, I'm not crazy studious, I try to do my work. So, his tests and exams are between hard and fair. His lectures and slides don't have much connection with the lab tests, rather they are from textbook examples. His lectures are boring and he is hard to understand. Not the worst, but try to avoid him.

Comment:
Boring and hard to understand in lecture and he reads directly off of the slides. He is a lazy proff who based his lab tests questions off of the textbook examples. Exam Questions had overlap with lab test questions and text book questions Lab tests are a combination of MC 25% and coding 75% Take a long time to give back any grades.

I bet this guy doesn't even know how to program. All his slides, labs, and probably exams are leeched off of another professor (Roumani). He doesn't know how to lecture either, can barely understand himself. He also is such a slow grader, we took 3 lab exams and only the first one was graded after 3 months, moreover half the exams were misgraded.

He is very knowledgeable, but I find it to be extremely difficult to sit through his lectures. You're better off not attending them, since he will just post the slides online (what he directly reads off of).

He is hard to pay attention to in lecture. None the less his tests are pretty fair and the labs are fairly straightforward once you get your head around the format. He does make labs look more complicated then they are but once you get used to it its fine. He remembered to email me about accommodations for my disability which no profs do!

Comment:
He has a lisp and an accent which make him hard to understand and pay attention to. After the first week of his lectures half of the class transferred to another section of the course. He never seems prepared during lectures as he always reads professor Roumani's ppt and very rarely replies to emails, so if you need help he is never there. HORRIBLE

Comment:
This professor is almost impossible to pay attention to in class, he is quite hard to understand when he is explaining complex topics and he uses notes provided by other professors. He always appears to simply be reading the notes from the slides and makes me wonder what I am paying him for when I could just get the same thing from reading myself.

Comment:
I found this course tough. The prolog assignments where not trivial. They significantly changed the course by consolidating cse3401 and cse3402. cse3401 was a prerequisite for 3402 so consolidating them did not seem to make sense. Professor Yves is good prof teaching a tough subject and giving tough assignments.

Was my instructor for a course in 1987 at U of T. At the time, he was a graduate student and taught CSC324. Many years later now, and with time to reflect on the past and to take things into consideration, I have to say, he was one of the worst teachers. Briefly, I reached out to him for help. He proved himself to be a despicable person.

Knows his stuff, but painstakingly hard to pay attention to during a lecture. You will be better off skipping his class and doing some code at home because whenever you attend his class, 90% of the time will be him reading slides that are also posted online.

Comment:
Yves Lespérance is knowledgeable. His French accent has no relevance to his teaching, his English is better than most people where English is their first language. CSE1030 is not a lecture course but a programming course. You need to program and the book is quite helpful along with internet. I got a raw score of 'B' but was bumped to 'B+'
