Dr. Gennaro is my favorite teacher at ISU. He's very laidback, and extrememly bright. He explains important concepts well and as long as you attend class and listen and take notes..EASY A's on tests and papers....I got an A on everything. He's a great teacher....awesome...highly recommend him. I'd take another class w/ him at the drop of a hat.

Dr. Gennaro has the depth and breadth of knowledge to make any philosophy class worthwhile. Whether you take advantage is up to you. If you show an active interest in material, he's an invaluable resource. His grading is fair (not overly tough or lenient) and usually accompanied by insightful feedback. That's all you can ask for.

WORST TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD!!!!! Totally monotone, no enthusiasm for the subject, wrote his own book and it's the most ridiculous thing ever, BOOOOOOORIIIIING!!!! The papers you have a minimum page limit (4 or 5) you MUST write them to this length even though you could say the same thing in 2 pages. Final was min.12 pgs!!! Total waste of time!!!

I took a good Ind. Study with Rocco over theories of Immortality. He is a little tougher when he offers an independent study, so be prepared to work a little harder...or get more scoldings for procrastination, hehe. He also grades a little tougher. If you've never taken an ind. study philosophy class, know that EVERY week its you, the prof, and 1-4 other people in a little room. You can't sleep through class, they're right next to you the whole time, and you feel extra ashamed if you don't read or do work:)

Minds, Machines, and Cognition is one of the best, most interesting classes offered at ISU and nobody could do it better than Rocco. You're in there with undergrad AND grad students from all areas of related study, and when I took it even the chair of the psych dept. participated. If you are not a retard and want to learn, and are interested in philosophy, artificial intelligence, psychology, and/or technology than take this course!!! It's harder than most, but WELL WORTH IT! Be prepared to read and write..

Comment:
This class is all about in-class discussion, at least when I took it a few years ago. Look, if you like debates, reading, and writing rhetorical papers then take philosophy. If you hate discussion, reading, and writing rhetorical papers than take an easier gen ed course. Rocco is a great teacher and a hell of a guy, but you're only going to get out of him and his class what you want to. If you don't like learning and can't form opinions on your own than forget ANY philosophy class.

Monotone lecture delivery makes this class difficult. Too many five page papers assigned on two page material. Disregards any one elses opinion but his own.

For general studies courses, he is a good teacher. He knows what you are there for, general studies. For higher level classes, I have a feeling he would increase the difficulity level but he has a nice way of increasingly going from topic to topic and increasing the difficulty accordingly.

Out early? Yeah right, maybe last year. This guy is BORING and overrated. Holds us late everyday. The class is hard and entirely abstract. The guy tries to be funny, but is not. How is he hot ladies? He's in his 40's, short, fat & goofy mustache. STAY AWAY from him and PHIL all together!
