Best professor I ever had@SFSU-Brilliant! Knowledge gained so significant it changed my life. Strongly disagree w/negative ratings. He teaches truth in history which is interpreted as rude & negative. Students not coddled or abused. Ryan Act Teacher Trainer Prog inc Hist/Ant/Psyc/Pol Sci/Econ?Geog/Ecology all necessary to pass CSET.

Don't be tricked by the comments on here about the ease with which this class is passed. True, there aren't a great deal of assignments, but attending this class makes me wonder why some people chose to be teachers. The three words I would use to describe Prof. Manders' methods are: Argumentative; Insulting; Aggravating. Avoid at all costs.

hey, don't be intimidated by the negative reviews. This teacher does care about what he teaches. The readings are interesting and the assignments (2 papers) are simple (you get to pick your own topic).

Dean Manders has good intentions and genuinely cares about his students but I can't say that I am a fan of his methods. He may come off rude at times. The material that he teaches is life changing to say the least--just do the reading and if you attend all classes, you get a grade boost!

Manders is a nice guy, but I think he's become too jaded to maintain a professional environment within the classroom.

Lots of reading. Lectures are excruciatingly mindnumbing. I think he just likes to here himself talk rather than caring about teaching something or if students are absorbing the material. Gives way TMI about his personal life, or lack of one. The last day he took a huge chunk of time bad mouthing other professors in the dept.-def. not professional

Manders has lost his marbles. He wasted a month of my life in summer school and I did not learn anything. Got a good grade but some brain cells in my head are dead too.

To be honest, he isn't that bad of a teacher because he actually tries to teach, but the bad things about him is when he talks, he adds so much crap in it that it makes the lecture longer than it supposed to be. He does it in a way that it makes himself more superior than anyone else . which in fact makes the lecture boring. He just does too much.

He was a rude instructor and expected everyone one in the class to understand the material without him explainning. Should consider improving his communication skills with his students better.

Dr. Manders is tedious. He gives, l-o-n-g, rambling lectures. He lacks the skill to speak clearly and without academ-ese. I'd rather work a little harder, learn something and not be frustrated all semester.

never walked out of a class before I entered his. we spent an hour tryning to explain to him that he was insulting us and not answering our questions. he thinks he is always right . He will not let you ask questions although he says he wants participation, and when you ask a question he either wont answer or say something mean
