I like the professor because she was direct in what she wanted, I understood what to study and she was easy to understand when it comes to her "style" of teaching. The class was about adorable growing babies, so that was a plus!

Prof. Portko was an awesome professor. She is really nice and even let our class buy the outdated textbook because it was cheaper. Her tests really aren't that hard if you read the textbook. The tests are multiple choice and essay. She gives extra credit on essays if you give her extra info then what she's asking for. I would recommend her!

Comment:
Prof. Portko is a terrible professor. You will be tested over 3 chapters (about 200 pages) every 10 days. Her tests are incredibly hard, and her lectures don't do anything but confuse you. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. The work load is ridiculous, her lectures don't apply to what you're learning about in the book, it's a mess.

Lectures are useless but mandatory. The lectures, book, and study don't prepare you for the exams. Only take if you don't have other classes because the work load is that of 5 classes. Doesn't listen to you if you have other ideas or viewpoints. And will beat around the bush for answering questions. Take life span instead to save your GPA!

Everyday is a lecture. Two ten page essays are required and its based on grammar mostly. Tests are mostly out of the book and are fairly hard. She was nice but I worked really hard to only get a B

She is all over the place. Her papers were ridiculously long and her lectures usually consisted of her babbling off about nothing. Her test are super hard, make sure you read each chapter twice, that was the only to get an A, and make sure you fight questions. She is a nice lady, but doesn't know what she is doing.

the only way to get a good, passing, grade is to be just as crazy as she is. Mandatory attendance and 12 paged, single-spaced papers can be expected. She is a tough grader and will mark you down for grammar more than content.

If you're not a psy major or have a life outside of this class, it is not for you.We had to read 5 books on top of numerous articles in 6 weeks (sum 11)and had to write these super detailed papers. Hard grader, especially on grammar. Talks too much and rambles. Needed this class for SWS and Theme. She teaches as if we are all Psy majors. PSY377=BS.

I can tell she loves the subject, but she made me hate it. Her multiple choice is impossible, she's really rude to students, and she is cocky. I didn't enjoy the class, as much as I tried to. She just made things so much more difficult than they had to be.

Horrible professor. She uses an article she wrote for most of the class. Biasly grades (hence, why I failed) and does so harshly. Going to class it useless but mandatory. She is rude to students too. Terrible, I do not have anything good to say about her. Even when I see her on the bus, I ignore her I hated her that much. Avoid if possible!

She made so many mistakes in grading and will lower people's grades if she made a mistake. She is often unavailable on many important weekends when students may need help such as when we had a 12 page paper due and finals. I recommend buying the study guide and reading the book carefully which helped me. Save your GPA and take a different professor

Avoid if possible. As other people have said, she is very picky about her writing. Although all psych profs make their multiple choice questions difficult, the wording of hers is just ambiguous. Also, she bases about 10% of your grade on one theme that is really quite useless and nothing new.

She was a great prof., maybe a little more work, but totally worth it in order to learn the material. She makes every lecture material relatable by giving examples of own life. If you are really interested in child development, take her!

This is the worst teacher I have ever had. Beware her tests, because they are complete bull. She wrote the first article she gives you and treats it like it's gold, using it on every concept even though it isn't peer-reviewed. Please, for your sake, do not take this terrible, terrible professor.

Worst teacher ever. Lectures are boring and really don't help you understand material. We have a quiz every monday wednesday friday over 3 different chapters. Tests are ridiculous. She revolves everything around the 3 world views which has nothing to do with the material we are learning. Nice lady but awful teacher.

Horrible prof, she is super caduper picky about grading her essays. If you don't write EXACTLY what she is looking for you will bomb her papers/essays. Way too much homework, and she focuses on one USELESS theme that is completely irrelevant to the course. AVOID HER and please tell this old lady to retire already. Attendance is mandatory

She is easy going, willing to extend most papers if you need it. This class seems pretty useless, easy but useless. Boring and difficult to grasp the linkage between novels (which most students agreed that they just B.S.ed all the papers b/c they really didn't link) Still, easy. Only hard part is dragging yourself there for no reason. lol Easy A
