Beware: she's an extremely tough grader! It was really nice she let us decide how the grading criteria would be graded, we actually voted! Love her as a person just not as a professor! Really hard to please. Always gives feedback from assignments.

Professor Johnston is so kind and really cares about the material she teaches. She does her best to effectively engage students in class discussions and is passionate about the content in the course. She is a tough grader but as long as you closely pay attention to what she asks for you'll be fine.

In her in person classroom, you can absolutely coast without reading both the textbook chapters and the online library reserve articles. It's not a hard class. Online, her commitment to her identity as technologically inept resulted in a semester of being a guinea pig for her learning process with no real support during a global pandemic.

She is a horrible professor. Do not take any course that she is teaching. You are graded on 2 papers which she does not give a specific rubric to grade the papers that she gives you. She only grades the paper for grammar and not for content. She gives feedback that does not make sense and she contradicts herself on the feedback she gives you.

I've had Ruth for 4 classes and have tried to respect her, but she doesn't care. Her instructions for the Internship journal entries are vague and she won't elaborate on them. Maybe she was a good professor when she got hired in the stone age, but that time is long gone. Avoid at all costs.

Professor Johnston is a good person. She wants everybody to succeed, but you have to put the work in. People who complain are the people who don't want to learn or take her criticism. The class is watching films and talking about them. There is a film exercise paper, a midterm and final paper. As long as you follow the guidelines you can do well.

The only assignments for the class were two papers which she graded extremely harshly. Highest grade on the first draft of essay 1 was a C, most people get C's on the essays. I would not recommend her at all, irrationally hard grader and old fashioned in her views, does not listen to other people's opinions

Harsh grader & very Confusing. She does not teach what's suppose to be taught inline with the course description. In fact, she does not teach; she plays a film and talks. All she cares about is grammar, not film history. She did not even study film in her college years. She's an amazing GPA dropper for sure.

She's nice but such a harsh grader. Lost all the points on my essay due to grammar, got a 75/100 because of grammatical errors.

The class is definitely more trouble than its worth. She's a killer with your papers and gave people C's and D's on work in largely an elective class. In order to get an A you must revise your papers at least 3 times. Save your time and sanity and take another professor. Trust me.

She is VERY helpful. She strives to make herself available to students so that they can get the best grade. For an A in her class, all you have to do is visit her office when its time for the rewrite and discuss how to improve your essay. Thats all.

Nice lady but a very very hard grader. GPA'S drop due to her. Good luck, you will need it. if she saw what I was writing now she would say too many grammar errors, as if it matters but grammar is everything to her. Again good luck and have an higher than a second grader vocab.

She is an extremely hard grader. You can visit her office many times and leave with the confidence of improvement. Yet when results appear you will end up discouraged. If you wish to be challenged take her class.

I am honors student and an English major. This woman is incredibly rude and condescending, and unless you go to her 4 or 5 times with a paper, you will not get an A on it. Please be aware that she gives two essays, each worth 40 percent of your grade. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
