Comment:
I was constantly struggling to reach Prof Laroche's extremely high expectations and, as a senior majoring in English, a 2600 level class should not have been this hard to try to grasp. If I was a Freshman in this class I probably would have cried and been extremely discouraged with the amount of work I put into each week and the low grades I got.

She has vague/ unclear prompts for writing assignments and feedback was not particularly helpful. She's very passionate about literature, but her lectures are a bit difficult to follow considering she tends to ramble on. She would inaccessible for periods of time with short notice. This wasn't helpful on the weeks when papers would be due.

She never seemed to help much in the Shakespeare class when I emailed her. Her office hours don't accommodate students so you often have to talk on the phone. Definitely has high expectations, but assignments are vague and she doesn't clarify well. She's passionate about Shakespeare, but doesn't seem to give great feedback when needed.

Dr. Laroche was an amazing instructor. Her class was definitely not easy; however, you leave feeling very accomplished. She is extremely passionate about what she is teaching. I would absolutely take another class with her!

A very worthwhile class. Lots of reading, but if you actually DO IT then it is rewarding. 90% student driven class, you need to participate and speak your ideas. Flexible and understanding professor, if you communicate with her.

Laroche is highly confusing, lacks clarity and doesn't try to help, even in office hours. Her online classes will have you chasing your tail and pulling your hair out. Avoid at all costs.

She's a good teacher, I just think she was trying to do something new. She had us write blog entries, which I'd never done before, and all we really had to do was read. There were a lot of quizzes, but you automatically got one point (usually 5 questions) for your name and they're just based on the books we read. Good books, fun discussion.

I went into her Shakespeare class happy to be learning Shakespeare, even though I had already taken it at my former college. However, she was too hard to follow, crazy, her assignments were horrible and when I asked for a reccomendation letter to get into Graduate school she told me I'd never make it. I made it. F- for her.

Very excited and enthusiastic about Shakespeare, and by the end of the semester most students will have figured out her incomprehensible assignments.

I went into Shakespeare dreading it, but I left with the intention of signing up for her next class. If you want an easy teacher or someone who will put you in a clearly defined box, she is not the teacher for you.I have learned so much in her class!

I was really afraid to take a class with Dr. Laroche because of these ratings, but she is actually a really nice, interesting and accessible professor. She teaches Shakespeare in a completely different and unexpected way and is extremely passionate about the material. It's not an easy class, but she's not a gorgon, either.

I took both of Dr. Laroche's Shakespeare classes. She has a passion that is unmatched by any other professor I have met at UCCS. Her excitement and passion for literature is contagious and truly made being her student enjoyable. She makes Shakespeare relevant and understandable. She is willing to work with her students and encourages discussion.

Comment:
Prof. Laroche is not the type to make you feel good about your writing, she is the kind of professor that always wants you to expand on what you know! Because of this, she can sometime seem condescending, but if you keep in mind that you'll learn more from criticism than praise, you'll truly begin to value her vibrant personality!

Everything is very confusing and hard to follow. None of the assignments are completely clear, so you are left sort of guessing at what she is looking for in a paper.

Professor Laroche was a horrible teacher! She gets so caught up with the material that she often looses focus. Her directions were very confusing, and when asking for help, she didn't help me at all. I could not stand this class in the least. She constantly talked down to me and never answered any of my questions. She should not be teaching!

i have been at uccs for 5 years... was working on my last two classes and this was the WORST class i have taken. it was not the actual class, but more the professor. she has no clarity in what she wants from students in their writing. nothing ever seemed good enough for her.she is defensive and can be quite rude.

Laroche not only cares about student's academic ability, but she genuinely cares about who you are as a person. Take the time to visit her office hours and she will get to know who you are...just because she really cares. She is highly passionate about her endeavors so she can be a little over the top, but if you talk to her, she always listens.

Rebecca was a wonderful prof, I had her in her first semester as a prof and loved her. Full of energy and great amounts of insight into lit. Sometimes hard to follow but if you make the effort, it is well worth it. Had 2-3 classes with her but don't recall the actual class numbers.

Class is fascinating, but it is difficult at times to understand what Laroche requires on her projects and in-class writings. However, Laroche is very knowledgable about each subject, and I would highly recommend this class!
