First off he mentioned he taught at Yale, so if that doesnt set the tone for the difficulty I dont know what else will. His quizzes were extremely hard. The exams were even harder. And the papers well that was the worst. I thought I wrote the best paper of my life and ended up with a D on it...

Simply unorganized. Maybe this class is better in person but online its terrible. It is so unorganized and the assignments are so descriptive but you dont even have enough material to cover what he wants. Lectures are boring. I expected to like this class but I did not. If you expect an easy A, youre out of luck with this class.

Dr. Godshalk is one of the best professors I've ever had! He is really dedicated to your success in his class. He makes himself available outside of class to talk about coursework or other issues that you may be having. I would definitely take his class again if I could.

Dr. Godshalk simply sucks. If you do the work, sure you'll pass and maybe get an A. But he constantly throws stuff on us last minutes. Messes up on his own quizzes so we have no clue whether if we are doing good or not. Expects essays to be 6 pages long in order to get an A when he barely gives us information on the topics.. DO NOT TAKE HIM

I took Dr. Godshalk expecting amazing things from these other reviews. I have always been an A student and this class was just a joke. He is unorganized, scatter brained, and more. He would constantly mess up on his quizzes and get content backwards. This class was a waste.

Over all, I really enjoyed this online class during the summer, he is not a hard grader, If you just look over the power points and watch the videos he requires you will do just fine. If you do not understand anything, he is very nice and is willing to work with you.

If you have to take a history class at Ship, take it with Godshalk. As long as you show up to class, write down notes (which he provides on D2L in Powerpoint format) and participate, you will succeed. He gives ample extra credit opportunities - some being eating at the dining hall during a "dine through the times" event. How could you pass up that

Although he has a monotone voice (which can be a drag in an evening class), he is a very enthusiastic professor who cares for his students. Just do your work and you'll be golden. He also gives out a few extra credit opportunities.

Lot of writing, most the exams and quizzes are just essays but overall a really easy class. Have to read two books but I just read the sparknotes and got an A.

Really great prof. Go to class, know the stuff on the powerpoints, participate every once in a while. Use the book and do the study guides, he gives you everything you need to get an A. Really slow talker, but if you get past that he's excellent

He is a great teacher and a very interesting person. I had the good fortune to be invited to join him for lunch one time, and it was without a doubt one of the most entertaining and informative lunches I've ever had. I recommend that you try to get to know him on a somewhat personal level if possible because he is a genuinely great guy.

Such a nice, helpful professor. He realizes that general education classes shouldn't be as hard as 300 level classes... some profs don't get that.

Dr. Godshalk is amazing. He's one of the most intelligent people I've ever met, and he's also one of the nicest and most accomodating professors I've had. I've learned a great deal in his classes; he definitely teaches to each student's individual level, and he will help you with whatever you need. Take him; he's great! :)
