We had a very small class and it was an excellent learning environment. Bruce was available lots since we were also his only class, and really cared about your quality of learning during his office hours and in class. I asked a lot of questions, and that's probably what helped me do so well in the class

You can't skip. This guy doesn't have a moodle, no official notes, but a good teacher who really knows his stuff. You will be learning at the pace of the class which is nice. His classes are usually quite personable so you can ask questions that he'll gladly respond with detail. If you care about math, he'll be happy to teach you.

The way of his teaching is write everything on the board and you have to copy it word for word. If you don't copy his notes, you are screwed so you have to show up for every class. I cannot learn this way and I am sure at least 10 of the students failed. I strongly do not recommend him and every 2nd, 3rd or 4th year will tell you the same

Bruce Crofoot is an exceptionally hard teacher, his class was no easy A. He frequently makes mistakes which makes his teachings somewhat unclear. Furthermore, his tests are VERY long for the amount of time you are given. Don't let this deter you however, If you go to his office hours and the math help centre then the class is fairly easy!

Bruce is a kind person, however he is extremely awkward and not very approachable. When you look at him he looks past you so as to not look you in the eyes. He lectures straight out of the textbook, but gives questions that aren't relavent to the course work. He also rambles on about concepts that are beyond 1st year calc. I wouldn't recommend him!

Reads from the textbook, does examples from the textbook, and follows the textbook word for word. He will go on tangents that make no sense, and then say you don't need to know it. He seems nice, but his teaching style is not suited for first year students, even if you've taken calculus in highschool. Also, be prepared for a test on the first day.

Really nice guy, but unfortunately he does not explain things very well and he is not in his office very often, so it is hard to get help. He also gives really hard quizzes and tests.

Comment:
Bruce should not be teaching first year calculus. He is very unapproachable and his tests are much harder than any of his quizzes or problems he does in class. He tests on stuff he talked about for 2 minutes in class and does not make any exceptions when his class does poorly. Do not take Bruce's class.

Bruce is not the most engaging guy, but he means well. He likes when you include words to explain your math. He assigned online homework that was way harder than anything done in class, which took forever and never appeared on tests. He can sometimes over-explain to the point where they become more confusing. Overall I found his tests fair.

If you're not great at math you will fail in his class. You don't learn anything because he doesn't know how to teach. All he does is examples that as much simpler than what show up on midterms or quizzes. Plus he is a hard marker and will take marks away for any tiny mistake. Avoid Bruce at all costs.

I did very well in 1140, but struggled through this course. He is a nice guy, but he does not explain things clearly and his tests are difficult.

Class is at a very fast pace. It is hard to keep up with the notes and follow along to understand what he is teaching. I had to buy "calculus for dummies" to get my mark up to a pass. I am an A student in all other courses.

I am a straight A student right out of high school, I took calculus in the last semester of high school so it is still fairly fresh in my mind, but that is the only reason I am even passing. His lectures are useless. We graph things that we don't need to graph, his examples are on a much lower level thinking than the ones he gives us on the quizzes

Do whatever you can to avoid this prof. His midterms are ridiculously hard. He is difficult to understand. His i's look like hand written e's. The final isn't to hard but that is due to it being written by the other 1240 math profs and Bruce. There will be easy questions and ridiculous questions that you will most likely leave blank. Switch..

Warning! Bruce may be better teaching higher level math courses but has no idea how to teach a first year course. Do not expect to learn from him. Reading the text book is a must. You will see questions on the midterms that you have never seen before. His quizzes are alright, but he is a hard marker. Just change profs!

Completely terrible. I'm an honours student, but even that didn't save me from this class. The lectures are of some use, but straight from the textbook. Honestly you might be better off with just the textbook. Don't expect to learn things from him, and expect questions that he didn't teach you on the midterms. If you have him as a teacher, drop it.

This guy will make you cry. His tests are brutal and the homework will haunt your dreams, but his method does work. You will learn lots from this guy but your GPA will hate you. After a few Bruce classes you learn to be happy with C's. Gives solid notes and will help you understand theory but won't do your homework for you.

Looks like Steve Erkle... but white. Bruce is a tuff teacher. If you take math 220 with Bruce, he uses his own textbook, which is written well, but unfortunetly lacks examples. Find yourself an Analysis book in the library prior to taking his class, it will help you.

he is a good prof but his tests are hard so be warned, the quizzes are a lot easier than the midterms and final. i hardly went and he didn't really care... but if you aren't good at math he isn't the prof you want.
